Did you get my suggestions? If not, then I need to provide you with them

I haven't solicited suggestions from anyone yet, but if you'd like to pass them along in a PM that would be great.  Remember, we're only trying to fill 15-18 slots, plus a solid farewell brunch spot, so cream of the crop candidates only please.

Unless the overall group disagrees, I think we're trying to avoid making this an all "Hot Dish & Jucy Lucy Crawl".  It should be a well balanced, solid mix of MSP's longtime traditional cuisine (I wonder if there's an appropriate phrase for that), the emerging food traditions introduced by incoming populations, and a few good old fashioned joints representing the Roadfood ethos.

EDIT: Just a quick geographical note; let's try to keep all choices inside, or adjacent to, the I-694/494 loop around the metro area.  There's already a massive amount of ground to cover in the Twin Cities.  Going too far outside that boundary overly complicates the matter and replaces precious eating time with travel.

I have a list of folks I was going to approach regarding these suggestion, but anyone with any insight is welcome to contribute.

I haven't checked in on this thread in awhile...is the private event at Al's Breakfast still up for consideration?

Absolutely.  I've also learned Mickey's Diner might offer the same type of deal.

Mickey's Diner is a gem, if for nothing more than historical value...one of the only O'Mahoney New Jersey Diners to be placed "Originally" in the Midwest. ...and still existing.

Not at all.
We previously discussed  on the thread of going to Kaffe Stuga  as an option- - it's just under an hours drive from the Twin Cities and well worth it for a one meal "old school experience (if I can can convince them to prepare their specials for that particular day) I don't think we should short change ourselves on Geography especially if it's just for one day- in fact on the way back down we can stop at the roadfood favorite,  Carol's Restaurant in Blaine- a mere 1/2 hour or less from Minneapolis
I also wanted to address Roadfood favorites, Hells' Kitchen, Tavern on Grand and Carol's Restaurant as viable options.

I agree with Dale on this. We should not miss an outstanding meal because of a few miles of driving.

I know Minnesotans are proud of their new 19th century mass transportation system. Is it possible to plan a day or a part of a day relying on the light rail to move us between stops without having to worry about parking?

Thought I would add some more food porn.
This is the cup of chicken wild rice soup I enjoyed at Kaffe Stuga in Harris MN 8 years ago

And last years ,  at the Roadfood favorite, Carol's Restaurant in Blaine Sandra had the Hot Turkey Commercial. This is real, hand carved turkey

and I had the hot meatloaf commercial

Everything here is homemade...the bread...the stuffing..even the cranberry sauce...

more later

There's a difference
1st off: Harris is much closer to the Twin Cities than Topeka is to Kansas City
2nd of all: I've been to Kaffe Stuga- albeit 8 years ago, however that was my 1st  (and last) visit to Porubsky's.

Lutefisk is a greatly maligned product.
When properly prepared, and drowned in butter and bacon, it can taste nice, just like butter and bacon.
I had it one year at Tre Kronor in Chicago at their julebord dinner for LTHForum, and it was completely inoffensive.
Even Frank thought it was not terrible and he is 1/2 Norwegian and has horrible, scarring, childhood memories of it.
So I would not be averse to a trial of lutefisk for the more adventurous amongst us...

The only problem is ..it's almost impossible to find until Christmas season when it's 20  below (without the wind chill factor)

It's not uncommon for Lutheran churches here in WI to offer lutefisk dinners starting in September, so now you have a reason to add a slight detour to your trip next month.

We're on a schedule...the only detour we'll be making is towards the south and west!
We NEED to be in Taos by Friday September 28

Tavern on Grand was NOT good when I was there a couple years ago.  Good walleye, but everything else was more bland than nursing home food- mushy, gray, no seasoning other than salt- and I'm sure there are other places to get good walleye.

We were there last September.
I couldn't comment about anything other than the Walleye and Cream of Wild Rice Soup.  We didn't try the hotdish- so I couldn't comment. Sandra loves the potato cakes- my wild rice was...well wild rice.
The Walleye and  cream of wild rice soup was fantastic as always and it was one of Sandra's favorite meals of the trip.
I know buffetbuster was there too recently and I believe he enjoyed everything except the hotdish.
Contrary to what Buddy says, ownership and management hasn't changed in decades.
