2nd & final Denver report, great eats, friendly people
As we pack up and get ready to head back to So Cal later this Tuesday after seeing our beloved Lakers split the 2 games here at the Pepsi Center, once again we leave Denver acknowledging the friendliness of persons everywhere, in shops, on the buses and trolleys, in the parks, at the recreational outlets, musuems, every where we went we noticed the openess and warmth of the folks even when we wearing Lakers gears. We had a smilar experience in Agust during the DNC as well
We were driven about a hour west of Denver into the Rockies to the old mining town of Idaho Springs to the original location of a small chain of pizza places, Beau Jo's http://www.beaujos.com/
known for Rocky Mountain pizzas, thick deep dish style with a raised crust surrounding the pie simulating the Rocky Mountains, hmm, hmm, hmm good, tremendous portions of toppings. The 4 of us oredered and shared the Momma Mia pie, slices of chicken breast, sliced mushrooms, fresh scallions and sweet roma tomatoes all layered under a sprinkling of Italian seasonings and blanketed with whole milk mozzarella and we ordered it with extra garlic-to keep the vampires away :>) They have honey on all the tables to dip the crust edges because they become almoist like bread sticks
After being stuffed, we walked around the old town Downtown despite constant drizzle
On Monday afternoon we had lunch at a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich place Wisonsin style decorated with Green Bay Packers memoribillia, http://www.chedds.com/
, very interesting experience.
After the Lakers-Nuggets game, we went to the Denver institution known as Pete's Kitchen because it wouldn't be right to spend 4 days in Denver without eating there
