How do you find the Aldis with the in-house bakeries? Thanks for the info. I hope I can find one.

David,

The Aldi's with an in-house bakery have a glass display case with serve yourself bakery goods. It's a matter of hunting one down. The one in Racine, WI does not have a bakery. The one in Kenosha, does.
Happy Hunting,

Mark

So, you like the idea of an ALDI with a bakery inside, eh?  How about the option shown in this video, posted at LTHForum.com?

Pretty damn cool, right?

The pastry vending machine? No thank you, first in-first out guarantees you will always receive the least fresh pastry in the store. I will hand select my fresh pastries from the bin at my store, grabbing the warmest one from the back.

The pizza from a machine? Seriously? Although it likely beats anything you can find in Chicago.

The coolest thing at the ALDI in Scotland was the huge selection of Single Malt Scotch and small-batch gins.

CSD,
Count us in for the next Milwaukee tour.  The sooner you announce a firm date, the sooner we can get it on our calendar, assuring our attendance.

ALDI croissants with Trader Jacques' (French) Cultured Salted Butter are superb. We picked up the butter in Evanston and were looking for something to try it on. This discussion steered us to ALDI.

I don't post much on here (I'm always on the LTH Forum), but this sounded like a fun day.  I live and grew up in Highland Park (via Skokie first) and go to Evanston/Skokie often.  I've been in the Detroit suburbs all summer fixing up a rental property so I missed this. Seems like quite a bit to eat over one day (though I once hit 5 beef joints over a couple of hours for lunch so look who's talking), but that was back in my "eating until it hurts" days.  I suppose with great restraint it certainly can be done.  I have enjoyed this thread and the great photos.

You guys picked some great stops which include some of my favorites like Edzo's and Poochie's.  The sweets are nice (Hoosier Mama is great) but they are secondary to me.  Evanston Chicken Shack is decent, but I never though it was that good.  I suppose another trip is in order.  An Evanston guilty pleasure for me is an order of extra crispy chips and gravy at the Celtic Knot.

We've found that to be the key.  We'll usually fall into smaller groups within the group and order together.  Usually a little more than enough for one person, split four ways.  Even then, different groups will order different items that usually get passed around for additional tastes.  Contrary to the occasional outward appearance, we're a very hospitable bunch who enjoy sharing and spending time together.

You should join us sometime.  In fact there's a Pizza Party planned at Wells Bros. Pizza in Racine next Wednesday.  C'mon up.

Thanks for the invite Buddy.  Ironically I am going to Milwaukee next Wednesday for a concert with my brother.  He has to work until late afternoon so we'll probably go straight to Milwaukee to make sure we are in town on time and then decide where to eat.  If we have the time we might try a couple of thin crust joints that we haven't had yet.  Another irony is he originally had hoped to have the day off and I suggested Wells Bros. (which is one of my favorites) on our way up north.  You must have read my mind.

The plan is to be there at 6pm.  If that works with your timetable, stop in and scope us out.
