But if you insist on bringing a dozen or more rowdy Contingencies into your home, who am I to stop you?

Perhaps David is looking to antagonize his neighbors for some reason?

I'll bet I could eat a hundred of those shrimp.

I’ll take that......... no, I won’t take that bet. But I’d love to see you try!

Dining al trunko is also an option.  But if you insist on bringing a dozen or more rowdy Contingencies into your home, who am I to stop you?

Buddy

The parking lot is pretty small, and if it’s a nice day I have a couple of tables in my backyard and I could have at least 16 chairs, plus two benches and a lower long table. I’m not getting the kind of response that would make me think I will need all that, but who knows. I would be very happy with as many as want to come. If it’s not a nice day, it will be more crowded, but I think we can make it work.

Ya never know.  Response was light at first for the Honey Butter Fried Chicken Tour, but we ended up with more people than attended the Nashville Crawl!

I reached out to Billyboy and he is in discussions with a higher authority.

What's the line on the shrimp bet?

Let me know when he hears back from the higher authority, then I can finish picking the date. Still not hearing from many people. I don't know if that means they're not interested, or any of the dates is okay.

I haven't heard the line on the shrimp bet yet. Is the payment in more shrimp?

I have many plans scattered throughout the Summer and even early Fall so I hesitate to even post on this. We did do an Evanston tour several years ago but I see some new names on the list. As you weren't that impressed, I'd skip the fried chicken stop. When a day is picked (and David, you need to pick a day that works for you instead of trying to have some day we could all agree on as that ain't going to happen. ), people will either join in or decline. I hope to join in, Evanston is pretty cool.

It's not that I wasn't that impressed, it's just that I've had better. It's probably as good or better than most northern southern fried chicken I've had.

I'm curious what places you went to in your previous Evanston tour.

Milt's Barbecue For The Perplexed, Edzo's, Bennison's Bakery, Gusphas's Wiener And Still Champion are what I remember. I've searched unsuccessfully for the trip report.

Milt's was part of the 2013 Chicago Architecture Tour and, IIRC, not especially well received.  The others were part of abe_froeman's Dog Days Of Summer Tour from about six years ago.  Sadly Wiener and Still Champion has closed.

I’ve been to Milt’s once. I know Jeff has been there with a group and didn’t like it. Wiener is out of business. I go to Bennison’s sometimes. I used to go more often. I really like Edzo’s a lot.

I hope you can make it. I think there will be some really good food that day. At least I really hope so!

Evanston Chicken Shack. On the Eater 2017 list of the 20 best fried chicken places in the Chicago area.
http://www.evanstonchickenshack.com

Maybe I just don't have a decent ISP connection this morning, but based on what I'm seeing ECS should also be on a 20 Worst Websites list.  Here's their FB page:
https://www.facebook.com/evanstonchickenshack/

But at least the menu page works.  Any place that offers a dark-meat-only bucket is OK with me.

Buddy, I figure $100 on the shrimp.  You in?

A $100 purse seems a bit high.  Not really worth a buck a shrimp to see you gorge yourself ala Joey Chestnut.  Now I'm wondering if you'll turn pink like a flamingo after eating all those shrimp.  Ooh, if you can eat all the shrimp while standing on one leg like a flamingo it might be worth the hundred bucks.  If you can bend your knee backwards like a flamingo it might be worth $200!

Also, the Chicken Shack stop comes fairly late in the tour, so it all depends on how much you eat up to that point.  If you come in cold, with an empty belly, no bet.  If you've been chowing down all day with the rest of us, it might be worth a $20 bet.

All of those dates are currently clear for Mr. Maki and I, and we’re good with whatever places get picked.

Hello all, I spoke to Dayna earlier and she is up for doing the Evanston crawl on Sunday July 29 OR a day trip to Milwaukee/dinner at a supper club on Monday July 30, but not both.  She gets why I'm into Roadfood but it's not really her thing.  I have yet to meet many of you and I'm looking forward to it.  Both options appeal to me but I'd like to attend the one that has a big turnout so I can meet more of you.  Just let me know.  See you soon!

Hi all,

I've chosen Sunday, July 29th as the date of the Roadfood Evanston Day. (Sorry Gyp) It really is the best day for me, and I hope it works out for as many people as possible.

I'll post a tentative schedule a bit closer to the day. I hope to see lots of you there.
