A Slice of Pie, ROLLA, MO.
We, My Grandson chris and I, had a one day round trip out to Southern Missouri yesterday to pick up the third member of our new "Dog Team". Without reviewing all the details again, we have added two young Cairns Terriers to our pet family. One came from Ohio , a month ago. The second, a pup now named for the Senior Agent on the NCIS TV Series, Jethro Gibbs was picked up yesterday near Branson, MO. from a breeder there.
We made the 980 mile round trip in a little over 18 hours with only two stops for food....one a BBQ place in Illinois that I will not bother to review and will not return to in the future. BUT we had a nice chat with the ladies at the "Slice of Pie" Bakery and sandwich shop in Rolla, Mo.
We arrived there early--about 7:30am long before normal opening time. One of the bakers was taking a break out front and we asked about reserving a whole pie for pick-up later in the day (when they often run-out of the favorite flavors)
She took our name for a Cherry Raspberry pie, and we were off the rural Ozarks to find 'Jethro Gibbs". Six hours later, with Chris driving and the pup learning who the new 'Pop' was, we arrived back in Rolla. The Pie was securely boxed for safe travel home, and we picked out a piece of Lemon (for me) and Chocolate (for Chris) to eat on the spot . We headed to a city park to walk the pup and eat our pie. Chris was amazed at the size of the pieces and the density and richness of his Chocolate. It was very good. The Lemon weighed-in extra heavy also.
Having been eating pie from this great place for years, I was pleased when my Grandson grinned about "learning another family secret from me"
We were pretty tired at the end of the day, but our family is now complete and we hope they will be with us for a long time.
Here are a few photos...

Here is our Cherry-Raspberry Pie when we got it home,
The title is accurate it is about 50% cherry and 50% raspberry.
A small piece of the Cherry/Raspberry Pie. The crust was outstanding.
Here is my Lemon-Individual piece. Another great pie flavor.
And Chris's Chocolate...He raved about the heavy whipped cream topping.
