Oh no....
That is some really sad news.....My only visit was  10 years ago. Allen and Sons was  one of my favorite Eastern Carolina Q joints. It was so good I went twice on the same trip- first I went alone and then I went with buffetbuster.

Truly sorry to see this place gone.

I've had several great meals here, but on my last visit, approximately three years ago, the 'que was astonishingly awful.  They must of just had a bad day, since other Roadfooders like Davidsanders have been there since and enjoyed much better experiences.  Wish I could have made it there one more time...

Sad news, the Chapel Hill Allen & Sons was one of the best.

The franchise in Pittsboro was a huge disappointment when I unwittingly ate there (Isn't there someone here who disdains all franchises?). Beware if you get nostalgic for A&S barbecue.

Two locations is hardly a franchise...
Waffle house is a national chain
McDonald's is a national chain.

A place with 2, 3 6 or even a couple of dozen locations is hardly a chain....

I remember there were some internet crazies on here who were extremely upset, angry and hateful when chains were removed to a separate fast food and chain forum and blamed me for it and insisted that any place with more than one location had to go onto the fast food and chain forum ....

"The Allen & Son in Pittsboro will remain open, operated independently through a licensing agreement."

I think that makes it a franchisee. Less than 20 miles apart, but without control of what goes on your plate, the Pittsboro restaurant is completely different from Keith Allen's original location.
