Amish Food

Even though I filled up on city Barbeque Brisket 6 hours ago, I am ready to eat again. Travelling from Columbus to Mt.Vernon and am looking for home cooked food for dinner, preferably Amish

I'm not sure about Ohio, but a few years ago we stayed on a "farm" with an Amish family in Lancaster area PA. I don't remember how we did this, but it is fairly easy to do.

Anyway, an option the family offered us was to have dinnner at the home of a neighbor. It was well worth it. We went to the home of another Amish family who charged $15 or $20 each and had a "family table" help-yourself in their dining room with all sorts of typical Amish foods. Afterwards they took us around their home, farm, barnyard, etc. About 10 "guests" were there, most from other "farms", B&B's etc. Great experience!

Actually I recommend this to all RF's - I haven't thought about it in years but it was great!

I am not sure what part of Ohio you will be in. Try checking this web for the several Der Dutchman restaurants scattered throughout Amish country in Ohio.

There are plenty of Amish eateries in the Holmes Co, Belin/Charm area of Ohio, but the area is quite touristy, and the " Amish " food decent, but not outstanding.

Try and find a small place at or by an Amish home. The big places are mostly overblown/overpriced buffet style places.

There is no Amish community between Columbus, Ohio, and Mt. Vernon, Ohio, but farther northeast is your best bet. Right near Columbus, just west at Plain City, is an Amish community with several good restaurants.

Hope you find what you are seeking. If you have the time to drive some, it really isn't all that far northeast of Knox County to find the kind of cooking you would like.
