Any good or halfway decent Jewish deli's in Westchester NY or Northern NJ along I-287?

I know I'm getting my hopes up high because there's only about a dozen Jewish Deli's left in NYC and the boroughs and maybe 5 on Long Island.  In 2 1/2 weeks we're driving from Eastern CT along I95  and then along 287 down to I78 in NJ. We would even consider detouring onto the Garden State down to I80 if there was something worthwhile. As of now we're considering Epstein's in Hartsdale but if there's something better, I'm all ears.

Gee thanks a lot, I guess that's a better response than the "Why don't you just take the drive to Katz's" which I was anticipating.

I would certainly go to Harold's if I was driving to Philly however we're heading west to Bethlehem.

I was actually anticipating that comment from foodbme
but thanks, I can stop holding my breath.

BTW, next time you drive to St Louis, I think you should stop at Solly's, I heard they have great butter burgers

I can't help you WJ. Whenever I get off 287 I head down the Garden State and stop at the rest area to hit Sbarro. But, there's the New City Kosher Deli and Restaurant up 304 in New City. Or, you can always stop at the 5 Guys in Nanuet if you change your mind about pastrami. Oh, don't forget you don't pay to cross the Tappan Zee eastbound.

Well why are you using 287?  Come over the GW, take i95(still don't miss him)to Edison, then continue on your journey!  OR, just go to Katz's!!!

Taking 287 you avoid the horror show called the Cross Bronx, among other things, and you get to go over a pretty bridge. Besides, the Tappan Zee Bridge is free.

Yes, the Cross Bronx is brutal(GW is free going West also)!  But, you can always stop by Arthur Avenue if you want to get out of traffic.

I never thought of Arthur Avenue.
And I forgot about westbound GW being free. Heck, I haven't crossed that bridge in more than 20 years.

Why bother going anywhere then? I can just plant myself over at the Warwick Mall and dig in.  New City Kosher Deli would be perfect if I was heading towards the Catskills. Actually it would be a very regionally appropriate meal for the Catskills.

Because I'm leaving Friday evening and if I did that, I'd be lucky to arrive in Bethlehem before Sunday

Maybe the ride north, before you've eaten one of those dreadful things.  Coming home afterwards, not so much.

On a serious note, I know for a fact that there are plenty of people from this area who post here, so no one can use the excuse that I selected an obscure area. Either this supports   what I've been saying for years that the NY Jewish Deli is long dead, or there are people who post here that deliberately do not want provide me with suggestions. I'm fairly certain it's a little of both.

Well, you know I certainly can't help you!  I've only been to NYC once and that was for an afternoon in 1974.  I've only been to two delis in my life.......Katzinger's in Columbus and Zingerman's in Ann Arbor.  Sorry.

What about the Kosher Nosh in Glen Rock NJ?

Not too far off 287.

Jewish deli is not dead, but it is somewhat out of favor.

Thank you squizon,

Looks like The Kosher Nosh has gotten good reviews online. It also looks like it's heading in the right direction that we're heading.  Hopefully the traffic gods will be in our favor since they close at 8pm.

Harold's is good, but there are two Harold's. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE ONE IN EDISON, NOT THE ONE IN LYNDHURST!!!!!!!!
I was going to recommend another one, only to discover it burned down a couple of days ago (for those in Northern New Jersey, it was the Foster Village Kosher Deli in Bergenfield).

You could always stop in New Haven, almost Woodbridge actually, at Katz's. It's just above the Wilbur Cross, and you can continue your journey by taking the Cross to Milford and I-95.

That was an option but we want to get as far into the NYC metro area as we possibly can before stopping for dinner since we have a long drive ahead which is starting so late in the day to begin with.

I sort of figured that, but I thought I'd toss it out there just in case.

Well... all was for nought- I just discovered that the day we're leaving just happens to be Passover eve!

Kosher Nosh is not open, Epstein's Deli is...I guess we're going there....

Passover aside, there's a large Jewish population around Monsey (between Nanuet & Mahwah) right on 287. I'd focus my search there.  If you forego 287 and are willing to be in the vicinity of 78 around Newark, I've always liked Hobby's. It was my 'go to' place when I worked in Newark. Try the turkey on rye with cole slaw & russian.  There's also a very well rated (Google 4.9) place nearby called Bragman's but I've never been there. The 'street view' shows it as a very 'roadfood' place.

Thanks kozel

I suspect all of the Kosher Deli's will be closed, and I totally want to avoid 78 until we get out of the NYC metro area west of 287. I think we're set on Epstein's in Hartsdale for now.

Just out of curiousity- I checked their websites, and both close very early anyway.
