Any go-to hot dog joints that you would recommend, in the Connecticut area?

I love all the Connecticut hot-dog hotspots: Blackies, Super-Duper-Weinie, Rawley's, Doogies, etc. But would love a new place to go to!

Have you been to Guida's in Middlefield?  I don't see it mentioned as often as Capitol Lunch, Blackie's, etc.  Strongly recommended.  I went there recently and had a 10" dog with chili, cheese, onions, and an excellent hot relish.

Goldburgers in Newington has great burgers, but they also do dogs - your choice of pork/beef natural casing, or all beef skinless, and everything is homemade. We did a "formal" review here on Roadfood for more info, here's a few pictures.  http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/8452/goldburgers

The owner of Mystic Pizza just got sentenced to over a year in prison on charges of tax evasion and structuring cash transactions.

Asher, I would definitely add Kamp Dog Johnny Ad's to a list for southeastern CT. Here is a route that I followed with some friends last month:

Guida’s, 484 Meriden Rd., Middlefield, open 7am
  • hot dog with hot relish, or chili & cheese
Chef’s Dog House, 337 Willard Ave., Newington, open 7am
  • bacon-wrapped dog with your choice of condiments from the bar
Doogie’s, 2525 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, open 11am
  • hot dog with hot relish, or chili & cheese **fair-to-good fries, too**
Capitol Lunch, 510 Main St., New Britain, open 10am
  • hot dog with the works (mustard, chili, onions)
Top Dog, on Route 66 near 197 Marlborough St., Portland, open ???
  • chili dog or Orleans dog with special relish
Blackie’s, 2200 Waterbury Rd., Cheshire, open 11am
  • hot dog with mustard and special relish
Al’s Hot Dog Stand, 248 S. Main St., Naugatuck, open ???
  • hot dog with mustard and hot relish
Mr. Mac’s Canteen, 838 Main St., Monroe, open 7-8pm
  • hot dog with Kuhn’s chili (VERY hot)
Swanky Franks, 182 Connecticut Ave., Norwalk, open 10:30-4pm
  • hot dog with chili & cheese **good fries, too**
Rawley’s, Fairfield, 1886 Post Road, open 11-6:30pm
  • the Martha Stewart/”works”: mustard, relish, sauerkraut, bacon
Super Duper Weenie, 306 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, open 11-4pm
  • Dixie or Californian (see menu) **good fries, too**
Windmill Tavern, 400 Hollister St., Stratford, open 11-11pm
  • hot dog with sauerkraut, chili (ask about Conty’s vs. Rudy’s), mustard
Glenwood Drive-In, Hamden, open 11-10pm
  • long dog with hot relish, mustard, chili (?)**good fries, too**

The only one I'd axe in retrospect is Al's, which was okay but not anywhere near the others in taste. My faves on this list are Chef's Dog House and Rawley's. Enjoy! Chris

When scheduling your  eating tour, keep in mind that Blackie's is closed on Fridays.

I'm heading up there too.. I have about 40 hot dog places I'm stopping at within a 7 day period. I might remove some though, as that is quite a lot of salt intake lol. But nice to see some good sounding stuff on this list that I didn't have on mine!

A great new hot-dog hotspot has arrived at 664 New Haven Ave in Milford, CT...DogTown! They took a little run down place and transformed it into a new favorite hot dog mecca, only 9 months old at this point. It's tiny but packs a punch in every dog. The owner's father owned Swanky Frank's (may it rest in peace...) and is now working with his son. Check out the article written for them by the New Haven Register and search for 'DogTown fusion hot dog stand is relished by Milford customers'
Better yet, try out their amazing doggies!
