Autonomous Cars?

Will you ever buy a car that doesn't need a driver, or feel safe riding on a highway at 70 mph, in a car with no driver?
Me, no way, I believe the whole idea will go the way of the Edsel!
BTW, I believe Global warming = Y2K, people making fortunes blowing this whistle, meanwhile Mother Nature shakes her head and continues her cycles started at the dawn of time, which we know so little about it's absurd! Your thoughts...yeah, yeah, I know it's raining cats and dogs all over the Midwest, Noah got wet feet in his day too!

Car that doesn't need a driver?  Nope.  Take the bus!  Take a plane!  Take a taxi!  Take a train!

When I get really, really, REALLY old (aka Hoffman plus 2 or 3) I think it would be a lifesaver. It would be great for shopping and trips around town without the need to depend on relatives.

As long as the cars have their own lanes and stay out of mine I'm perfectly fine with them, but that's how I already feel about all other drivers anyway.

I wonder how one would react if I pulled up next to it at a stop light and issued a challenge.

So I'd opt for the Jitterbug GT with its special interface for geriactic motorists. A large touch-screen navigation system with all the important options on one screen. The doctor, Urgent Care, ER, Waffle House, Gahanna Grille, CVS, Walgreens, the grocery store, the Crossroads, and Depends Outlet Store. That's about everything worthwhile in life at that age.

I'll ignore the mewlings of the beknighted bicyclist and get to the subject of this thread. My grandson is a team leader for Uber's autonomous testing operation in Pittsburgh. They've been operating these cars (Volvos) -- with paying passengers -- on the streets of Pittsburgh for several years, although they have had an interrupted period following an accident in Arizona. Unfortunately the damned things work well. As for me, I ain't giving up driving.

No.  Speaking of cars, BMW impounded my car and can't legally give me back MY car until they find a part that is no where in the USA and hard to find in Europe!

It just sounds so wrong!

Carry on...
