BK hot dogs are coming to you!

Burger King to Debut Flame-Grilled Hot Dogs
Gina Pace

February 10, 2016

Burger King is ready to add another backyard grilling staple to the menu: hot dogs.
The chain is rolling out its new Grilled Dogs to restaurants this week, and they’ll be available nationwide by Feb. 23.
Yahoo Food got a sneak peek at the new hot dogs, which are a custom 100 percent beef and spice blend made specially by Oscar Mayer for Burger King. The biggest difference between these hot dogs and others served at gas stations and ballparks around the world is that they are “flame-grilled” like the burgers at Burger King. They come in two varieties: Classic ($1.99), with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions, and relish (although any item can be left off; never forget: “Have it your way”), and Chili Cheese ($2.29). Both are served on a baked bun, which isn’t toasted.

Burger King brass think they have a hit on their hands. Alex Macedo, the president of Burger King in North America, said the company was impressed by how the Grilled Dogs performed during six weeks of market testing last year in Salt Lake City, Baltimore, Detroit, Kansas City, and Memphis.
“We’re tapping into a category that’s huge,” he said. “We might not have the expertise to start serving spaghetti, but hot dogs, we do.”
When the hot dogs fully launch on Feb. 23, Burger King will become the largest restaurant in the nation to serve them, he said.
Macedo even went so far as to say it was his favorite sandwich on the menu, until Yahoo Food asked him to weigh in on the philosophical debate that plagued the Internet last year: Is a hot dog really a sandwich?
“I knew you picked up on that,” Macedo replied. “I should say an item, just to be safe.”

This might be a reason to stop at Burger King. I might go test drive the chili dog. Can it be so bad?

You can have that last one. If I want a salad with a hot dog I'll order one, and I never want a salad with a hot dog.

When I first saw the title of this thread, my first thought was BK in Tucson, purveyor of excellent Sonoran hot dogs.  Those people are welcome to come to Pittsburgh anytime!

I can't wait. As Burger King lets you "have it your way" I'll have mine split, grilled and placed in a top-split bun with brown mustard, relish, chopped onions and sauerkraut. Make it two, and can I have some fried clams with that? Yessiree!

I was in BK yesterday. I didn't see anybody eating the hot dogs. This BK is not far from George's Cony Island, a world class doggery, so I think that maybe those with a desire for dogs would just go there.

I think I'm going to stop there Friday on my way home from work, specifically for hot dogs. I'm willing to take one for the team. If they're at least acceptable, it'll solve my problem of really wanting hot dogs periodically and being unable to get them because everywhere they're available closes before I get out of work.

Had one the other day.  Pretty good.  The chili had a nice flavor to it and it had beans which I like.  The hot dog was more like a Nathan's dog which is nice because I thought it would be more like a Ball Park.

Sounds ok...I too thought it'd be a Ball park type. Got to try it. You could do worse than Nathan's....certainly for a $1.99.

OK, tried one in the name of science.  Got the "classic". ( ketchup, mustard, chopped onions, and relish)

It will not blow your socks off, but for $1.99...  an acceptable snack.

My two teenage sons though give them a 10/10 and hammered out 8 of them.  Fair warning - teenage boys.  Their palates are somewhat... undiscerning.

Snoop is cool. He's also talented in his genre and is an all around funny guy.
