Best CHEAP Hot Dogs

Keep in mind these are not the BEST Hot Dogs in the World, these are the best CHEAP Hot Dogs as judged by a panel of 7 judges of dubious credentials. These are the dogs you serve to your kids baseball team after a championship season pool party or to all your relatives that you don't like at the family reunion. If you REALLY don't like them serve the Pork blend dogs. If there's a chance you might be included in their Will, Serve  OSCAR MAYER CLASSIC BEEF FRANKS (35 CENTS EACH)
And let's all admit it, we all eat some of these brands --Some rather frequently. Which ones do YOU like?

Would the moderators check to see who keeps flagging Foodbme's posts?  There is nothing wrong with them and it's happening more frequently.  It's just rude meanness.  The Flagger seems to need a warning whoever it is.

This post is in the hot dog forum so what is the reason for flagging?

Anyway, I don't like cheap hot dogs due to taste and texture so I can't really answer the question.

But my favorite singular, cheap hot dog is the one sold at Costco.  I know that's not what you meant but it's the first thing that came to mind.

Foodbme, I have a feeling the flagger marked your post (though I think that a PM to the Forum Moderators would have been more appropriate) as this forum was set up for posting about where Roadfooders have found their favorite hot dogs, sausages and brats at a Roadfood type establishment.  Most of the Lunch & Dinner Forums are about discussing where Roadfooders found their favorite sandwiches, burgers, chicken, etc...  The description for this thread says: Where did you have your favorite hot dogs, sausages & bratwursts, and where can others go to find similar treats?

Your post is about favorite brands and not really about Roadfood per se.  The best forum for your post might be the Miscellaneous - Food Related forum: Have a food themed Roadfood question or topic that doesn't fit any of the other categories? Post it here!

Hope this helps.

These were the BEST !

Too bad they don't make them anymore.

BTW:  I think this thread would be more appropriate in "Miscellaneous - Food Related".

This particular forum is for Roadfood establishments that serve encased meats, e.g. Chicago's Hot Doug's, New Castle's M&P Coney Island, and the Burgh's fabulous, world famous "Dirty O".

around here, all of the hot dogs are cheap and nasty. no sabretts or vienna beef available retail, we get some nathan's skinless rejects with bone chips and gristle chunks in them, oscar meyer, ball park, john morell, cloverdale.. there are a few european stores that sell good quality wieners in a jar, i don't remember the brand but they were really good cold or cooked. i think they came from denmark

I used to love those Smokies!  Now you can only get them in the cocktail size which are wonderful served in barbecue sauce.

In Rochester, we're lucky to have Zweigle's red & white hots, Sahlen's, the ones used at Ted's in Buffalo, and Hoffman's red & white "coneys", used at Heid's in Liverpool which was just roadfood of the day a few days ago, a real real tough decision, as all are cheap.

Of the ones tested I think the Nathan's are the best by far. I don't really like any of the OM kinds but the beef ones are edible. Those Heritage ones from Kroger are just awful. Mushy beyond belief and no flavor at all.

Target hasn't used Vienna's for about a year and a half. They did away with the roller grill and use a steamer now and a different brand of hot dog.

We use the Nathans all the time. They're a pretty good dog. Certainly better than many of the others in that list. While I prefer a natural casing dog, they're few and far between in my 'hood. Till then, a grilled Nathan's will get the job done.

Thanks, Ann. I was aware they were on their way out, but didn't know when they were totally discontinued, since I haven't been in a Target for a while.

OK, Thank you, that makes sense. So why didn't the flagger just say Hey FBM, I THINK this is in the wrong place instead of calling it Spam leaving the poster in the dark as to the reason why.
By definition, it is not SPAM - except in the mind of the Self-Appointed Thread Correctness Nazi.
It's just a misplaced post and I apologize for my incorrectness.
Here's the definition of SPAM:

Again, THANK YOU Billyboy, for your considerate explanation.

Well, Foodbme, people want to remain anonymous, and have no backbone anymore. I agree-shoot you a PM or simply comment" you may want to put this in"xyz" thread".
As for cheap hot dogs, I wont touch them. (I can barely eat hot dogs at all anymore) We like Hebrew National for skinless-and our local Usingers has an outlet store next to the downtown factory, and you can get skin on wieners( with slight imperfections) for a very cheap price.

In my neck of the woods, the "cheap" hot dogs are usually like $4.00 a pound. In the meantime, the Johnsonville and Hillshire Farms are frequently about $3.00-$3.50 a pound ($2.50 - $3.00 a package, but the size has decreased from 1 lb to 14 oz).
So, for me, the best "cheap" hot dogs are the Johnsonville/Hillshire Farms "sausages".

The BJs in Owings Mills, Md. (which uses Dietz & Watson 1/4 lb. dogs) still steams the hot dogs.

Hot dog and a soda for $1.49 (plus tax).
