I was intending to try the jalapeno McDouble, but after seeing the pictures in this article, it just doesn't look good to me.

And it seems there are no more $1 lunch items at the McDonalds near me.  The McChicken has gone up to $1.30 and the 'special' McDouble sandwiches are $2.30 (plus tax).

My Jalapeno Doubles never looked like that.  I had one yesterday!

Unfortunately my closest McDonald's that are part of gas stations stopped including the jalapeno crisps.  I have no idea as to why and neither does the employees.  The larger, full sized McDonald's still serve them and I ask for extra making my Double freshly made.... and delicious!  Some stores charge me extra for those extra crisps but I don't care!

Sometimes, Mar, if a supplier is running low( or didnt order properly) they send the product to the bigger stores, and skip the smaller ones. I ran into that when I ran a deli at a smaller store in a chain...
eruby-try one! They are good.

Good godamighty, Jim.  Really?

I thought it was my journalistic duty to try that "barbecue" at Wendy's, and picked up a snack from them last month.  I will agree that I have had worse barbecue.  Twice.

Sadly for me, Wendy's has discontinued their pulled pork sandwich.

Unless it's Eastern Carolina minced whole hog, 'pulled pork' for me is a very neutral meat whose tastiness depends on the sauce.

I had better sense than to try Wendy's 'sweet' or 'smoky' varieties; their 'spicy' was passable enough to make it (for me) very tasty for a fast-food sandwich.  That is, compared to a McRib, it totally rocked.

We have no McDonald's paired with gas stations. I like that idea. I might drive thru sometime if I was filling up.

Yeah, my local McD's annoys me, since they ran out of crisps, but they just serve them up anyways, and get irritated when I return a sandwich since it's missing one of the key ingredients.

I tried McD's 'Jalapeno Double' today.

The jalapenos were are tough as toenails and the cheese slice was so thin it was almost transparent.  It was my last.

White Castles are few and far between, but when they're the only wheel in town, finding something I can eat from them is problematic. Forget about healthy alternatives. In terms of taste, I find that there are some unpleasant (for me) flavors in the burgers. The cheese gets rid of them, but makes it too fatty. A pickle slice on the cheeseburger cuts the fat enough to make the whole thing edible, but, for some reason, the last few times I visited White Castle, which I admit was a number of years ago, they would not put pickles on cheeseburgers (actually, they said they would, and then they didn't. After the 3rd time, I gave up.). The fried fish sandwich seems to be the most passable thing there, at least by my tastes (the fried chicken options are on the way overcooked side). From previous posts, you can see I have no trouble with fast food in general, but I have been known to eat nothing rather than eat from a White Castle.

Sure, rub it in.

Only went once, in Las Vegas.  We tried to walk to it, but it was too unsafe so we took a cab.  As soon as we got out, people got in to go back to the Strip, and it wasn't even the cab they had called about.  Constant stream of cabs to In N Out from the Strip and back.

Totally worth the expense of a cab ride.

Roz and I have been in Vegas for the NHRA races several times and we always stayed at the same hotel across the interstate from the In N Out.  We had a rental car and stopped there every time we returned from the races.  Always very very good.

We have an In N Out within long walking distance.  I won't get in the line.  Although not a bad tasting burger, the line ruins it for me.

MetroplexJim...  it's the hardness of the jalapenos that I like.  Love the difference in textures... and taste.

That's really true about a lot of places in Vegas!

Maybe I overedited.

I had a Jalapeno McDouble twice today.  The first time and the last time.

The price was $2.10 (plus tax) while other 'premium' value items were more.  The sandwich did have a fair amount of both pickled jalapenos and the crispy fried strips.  I'm not a huge fan of jalapenos, but the crispy strips were good.  I also am not a big fan of ranch sauce, so I just dumped on some bbq sauce.

Not a bad deal for the price (if you like that taste).

Right now I think the tastiest thing at McD is the Bacon Clubhouse Burger. Quarter pound patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion and Big Mac sauce. Problem is it is messy to eat.  The tomato and sauce make it slippery and when you bite in, all the innards want to slide out the back.  It is good though,

Of course it does not look like this:

Eruby, I'd give you $3 for that jalapeno double right now!  I miss the crunchies and love the taste combination.

1)  No lines at the many In-N-Out's here in the Metroplex.  They still do a good business, though.

2)  When I said that the jalapenos on my 'first and final' were as tough as toenails I was being quite literal in comparing them both to toenails and all the other jalapeno's I enjoy so much and so often.

BTW:  Even though the wrapper was identical, my sandwich looked nothing like eruby's above (maybe it was an illegal alien-burger!).

Do I want to know how you know that toenails are tough? Nah. I wonder if toenails have been featured on 'Weird Food'? On the other hand, maybe if you braised them.....
