Bon Chon

I just read that the OKC suburb of Edmond (which is close to me) is getting a Bon Chon location, which specializes in Korean fried chicken.

Sounds good to me!

We have many in the D.C. area.

The chicken is fantastic. Some of the locations are noisy and they all seem to push you to order larger portions which is both bad and good.

Is the chicken coating flour or cornstarch? I love fried chicken and have had some asian fried chicken, and read a few recipes, where the chicken is coated with cornstarch rather than flour.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm definitely going to try it once it's open. There are other, non-chain Korean restaurants in the metro but this will be by far the closest.

I have a Bon Chon about 2 blocks from my apartment in NYC.  Love it!  I've always been more of a "strips" sort of guy so I usually get the small strips (half & half combo of soy garlic and spicy) with a side of two dinner rolls.  The spicy can be uneven as it seems to depend on who is applying the sauce.  Sometimes I can handle it and other times I need a LOT of ice cold milk to go with it!   The restaurant itself isn't my kind of place as it has loud music, multiple TVs with sports and it somewhat dark, so I usually get my food to go.  They started out being called Bon Bon Chicken and had sweet dinner rolls and a very tasty vinegar coleslaw, both of which are no longer on the menu.  Hope you enjoy it!

It seems there were two of them. The first one opened two years ago and is closed.

I tried the one nearest us (17 miles away) Thursday.

WOW!  Great stuff!  Thin, ultra-crispy, spicy crust.  Fantastic.

I like drumsticks and theirs are 3x the size you get from KFC and Popeyes.  You get three of them in a 'lunch special'.  I was in fried chicken heaven.

Excellent fries that retain their heat and crispiness, too.

Looks like the Bonchon closest to me is in the beautiful Chicago suburb of Scumburg...err, Schaumburg.  I don't get down that way very often but will keep it in mind.

However, the Glenview location is just up the road from BuddyRoadhouse's home turf of Des Plaines.  Perhaps he'll weigh in.

we have several Bonchons here.  They seem to keep to the suburbs.  We also have Von's, a chain out of California, Lim's, the company that first came up with this style of fried chicken in Seoul in 1977, plus Hoodadak and Dak and Bop, two locally owned shops, and a stall at Super H Mart that I don't know if it's chain operation or locally owned.

I've tried them all except Von's, the newest one, and I like Bonchon best. I like the soy-garlic flavor.

I haven't seen any over-sized drumsticks but at Bonchon and even more at Dak and Bop, the flaps and drummettes are as big as drumsticks.  They must be using 10 to 12 lb. chickens to get wing pieces that big.
