Buttermilk Pie at Red Shed Diner

Michael Stern has reviewed Red Shed and it has become one his goto spots since moving to South Carolina. I had an opportunity to stop in today and he mentioned that I should not miss the Buttermilk Pie. I couldn't pry him away from his fox hunt to join me however. BBQed fox must be tasty!!!  The waitress asked if I wanted it served warm and with fresh whipped cream. I answered with a resounding "DUH". This pie is incredible. Michael I hope you caught that fox.

That looks like a great slice of pie. Going to have to find me a recipe and try my hand at it, since the Red Shed is a bit of a hike.

I think of buttermilk pie as a Texas thing and all the best ones I have enjoyed have come from there. That great looking slice looks like it could more than hold it's own.

I always thought buttermilk pie was a southern midwest thing a'la Southern Indiana or Kentucky. I remember Dodd's Town House in Indianapolis had it on the menu.

BTW, chickenplucker, that slice looks like a winner!

It is a custard pie. Reminds me of Chess Pie somewhat.
