"Christmas" for the non-Christian

This was discussed last year and apparently it's more widespread than I realized, but a growing Bay Area tradition for spending "Christmas" if you aren't of the relevent religion (or even if you are but have opened all the presents and are bored) is the Kung Pao Kosher Comedy fest: http://www.koshercomedy.com/ . If it isn't obvious, this is a series of performances of Jewish standup comedy which takes place in a Chinese restaurant in SF's Chinatown (I assume because lots of Chinese aren't Christian either and, in any case, many Chinese places including this one are open on Christmas). This year, they will actually have performances nightly from Dec. 22 through Dec. 25 at the new Asia restaurant, 772 Pacific Ave., SF. Tickets available at the above web site.

I haven't been in SF myself the last couple of Christmasses but the last time I was I caught probably the last public performance of Henny Youngman (those of us of a certain age know who he was; for the rest: http://www.funny2.com/henny.htm ), who died shortly thereafter, at this event.

I guess Henny was trying to find out if that famous quote, "Dying is easy.....Comedy is hard", was actually true.

My famly often goes to a movie Xmas afternoon. I usually try to work at the group home so my co-workers can spend the day with family. This show sounds like a lot of fun though.

    Take my wife ........................ Please!
I suppose a non-Christian would feel left out at Christmas time so a little humor and Chinese food might be just what the Jewish doctor ordered..

Since my wife is Jewish, and I'm suburban Methodist, we get to throw in all manner of foods to our Holiday fare. It's greeeeat eating but usually leaves us at about +10 lb. on the scales.

One of my favorite Henny jokes " I used to be an atheist but I gave it up. No holidays."
