That seems a little disingenuous to associate Baltimore's Dangerously Delicious Pies with Washington, DC. I recall that buffetbuster, Cousin Johnny and I first ate at their Baltimore location some time ago - before Food Network stardom - and expansion to DC, Austin, and Detroit (!?!?!?!).

But, I guess that is the nature of these lists. No pie from Arkansas, because that doesn't sell magazines or generate web clicks. So, the choice to "sell" the District is a no-brainer compared to choosing to represent something that is otherwise authentically Baltimore.

Sorry I missed this until now.  Thanks for posting this Kozel.  I made some notes for future trips.  The only one I have had before is the Baltimore Bomb at Dangerously Delicious Pies.

Both lists are bogus because Henry's in West Jefferson, OH isn't on them!

Well, the Big Apple IS the center of the universe!!

LOVE the Boston Cream Pie at Omni Parker House.  I haven't made it to Baked yet but I'm hoping to add it to a Brooklyn-centric tour in the spring of 2015.  Dayna and I made it Four & Twenty Blackbirds and really liked it.  Billy's Bakery, along with Magnolia Bakery, Sugar Sweet Sunshine and Buttercup Bakeshop are all mostly known for their cupcakes, but it's their puddings, bars and especially their PIES that keep me coming back!  I really want to like the Sour Cream Apple Walnut pie at The Little Pie Company but it's just to sweet for me.  I like a nice balance of sweet and tart.  Bubby's Pie Co. has some very excellent pies and their Michigan Sour Cherry is my favorite but at $8 a slice it is a "special occasion" indulgence.

Buffetbuster, the next time you're in NYC, you should check out Hill Country Chicken.  Not crazy about their chicken but they have some fantastic pies and small "pie cups" so that sampling is easier.

Not sure that I would include a cheesecake spot (Harriet's) on a list about the best pies.

Tell you what Bill, you can have NYC and I'll take DeValls Bluff, Arkansas!

Actually, I trust your taste much more than the people who make up these lists.  Next time in Gotham, I will have Hill Country Chicken at the top of my list!

I like to shop (and read the result of my shopping) online at various Book Dealers, Including HAMILTON'S BOOKSELLER.  Recently they had a "Bargain Book Cataloge" issued with some very low prices. I indulged in a few... a couple of Military History Trivia  books, a John Wayne Biography, some light humor for Janet, AND
"HOW TO ROAST A PIG" 150 PAGES OF WELL ILLUSTRATED AND DETAILED GUIDELINES TO VARIOUS HOG COOKING TECHNIQUES---$ 5.95
    and
"UNITED STATES OF PIE"  200 PAGES OF AMERICAN PIE CULTURE. SORRY THE TABLE OF CONTENTS PRINT IS SMALL IN THE FOTO- EXPAND IT IF U CAN.. THE LABELS ARE GREAT.  The recipes include a good background history of the regional origins. What is missing are those all important photographs of the products themselves.
    COST WAS ONLY$7.95...

CLIFF IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE OF THE PIE BOOKS ORDER ONE RIGHT AWAY , YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Great recommendation! Ironically, I checked out that book from my local library this week.  So far I've made it through the Northeast section. Right now I'm reading through pies from the southern states. It's quite the book for pie enthusiasts! Definitely unique and uncommon pies in there. Some I'd never even heard of! I'm interested to see what pies are from the Western US.
