Re: Clover Grill In New Orleans (est.1959)
Mrs. Roadhouse and I last visited NOLA the weekend before Halloween, several years ago. If you ever want to see the city in full swing without the madness of Mardi Gras, that is the time to go.
We stopped in at Clover Grill late one night, hoping to sit at the counter where we could get a good view of the grillman at work, slapping down fresh Hamburger patties and cooking them under a Genuine American Hubcap. Unfortunately, all the counter seats were taken, so we opted for the next best thing, a booth near the window.
Our second choice seating turned into a bonanza as a pack of zombies ambled down the street, stopped right outside the window, cranked the volume on their boombox, and proceeded to reenact the entire Michael Jackson "Thriller" video for our personal enjoyment. If there's a better New Orleans experience than that, I hope I live long enough to see it.
IIRC, the Burger was pretty good, but was still overshadowed by the spontaneous choreography.
Lord, I love that town.
