Coming to Milwaukee

Mariton and I will be in the Milwaukee area next weekend, March 16-18.  Anyone interested in meeting us for breakfast on Sunday, March 18 at McBob's for the world's greatest corned beef hash?  We are early birds by nature, but could be flexible on the time, as long as we are there for breakfast.

We'll be in line behind ChiBears15. A 2nd breakfast at McBobs always works.

BB, given that you're proposing breakfast the morning after St. Patrick's Day you might want to check McBob's opening time, in case it's delayed because more time than usual is needed for the hosing out and fumigating.

Unfortunately we have other plans and won't be able to join you and Mariton.

Dude, you're hitting Milwaukee on St. Pat's weekend?!?  You're welcome to indulge your own death wish but please spare poor Mariton.  I guess if your flight is already booked, and there's no turning back, there's a possibility we could meet you Friday night.  Unfortunately, we're previously engaged for Sunday morning and there's no way I'll be joining all the amateur drunks on the interstate on Saturday the 17th.

Hope to see you at some point that weekend!

Danny,

North Avenue Freeze Out, Part Deux.

We can shake off that lite-weight Cliff and hit all the places we missed last October. Poutine with a non-IPA microbrews, I don't think you can beat that (even in Rhode Island or Ottawa).

Are we going to Valentine's for Cortado's first?

Mike - We won't have to wait for Boudreaux, so an early breakfast meeting your requirements is doable, and even fits with Cliff & Mariton's preference. Does 09:00 work for everyone?

McBob's accepts breakfast reservations, so let's start a count.

FWIW, not sure what time the newlyweds are flying out, but we might be available later in the day.  Our family commitment is a brunch that wraps at about 1pm.

Unfortunately, we get in late Friday night.  As for St. Patrick's Day in Milwaukee, hopefully we will be getting out of town early enough that it won't be a problem.

This is Milwaukee, not Boston. I've never found St. Patrick's Day to be a super big deal around here. Granted I don't go out to bars to get smashed as a general practice.

Buddy, our flight out is at 6:55pm, which means we want to be at the airport around 5:00-5:15.  From McBob's, we are headed to the Milwaukee Art Museum.  We also have plans to tour the Pabst Mansion, check out the lobby of the Oriental Theater, Kopp's (cherry amaretto cheesecake and birthday cake) and a meal at Polonez.  And if time allows, a trip down to Elegant Farmer for a slice of apple pie.

Anyone who wants to join us in any of these would be welcome.

Re: Coming to Milwaukee 2018/03/13 14:03:56 (permalink)
bb, if nothing else, I'll give you an "A" for ambition.  I'm not sure we could get that much done, but if you've got the stamina, by golly, go for it.  We visited the Art Museum last fall and spent a solid 3-4 hours there alone.  But based on your many trip reports, I've learned not to underestimate your ability to squeeze as much as possible into a day.

We should be done with our family gathering by 1pm.  It's up in the north suburbs, so we could potentially be in Milwaukee by 2:00.  Meeting at Kopp's or Polonez (or both) sounds very doable.  You might even attract a good sized crowd for those destinations.  Give me an idea of when you'll be hitting those two spots (don't play coy, you know you've got this whole day planned down to the minute) and we'll do our best to meet you folks.

Safe travels!

Believe it or not, that isn't me at all.  I change my mind and go in different directions all the time.

Glad you are interested in wanting to join us.  How about we say Polonez at 2:00PM, followed by Kopp's?  That should give us enough time at the art museum and the Pabst Mansion tour.  Maybe even squeeze in a photo op with the Bronze Fonz.

That plan has potential for us, although we'll likely skip the last parts.  You better have a scooter if you want to get through the museum and Pabst Mansion before your need to get to the airport.

I'll stay in touch as we wrap up at the brunch and head north.

.......we get in late Friday night...................

Coaches Pub and Grill
The kitchen closes Friday at 11pm;  perhaps this might interest you.  It's a ten minute drive at most from the airport. I find their Cajun seafood chowder to be one of my favorite Milwaukee soups; it is spicy. Their pan fried Walleye is a winner.
Friday Fish Fry & Seafood SpecialsUnless otherwise noted, all dinners are served with your choice of side and soup or salad, coleslaw, rye bread, lemon, and homemade tartar sauce.  Side choices include potato pancakes, French fries, waffle fries, mashed potatoes, homemade chips, or onion rings, thick or shredded.  Fish fry soup options include clam chowder, spicy Cajun fisherman's chowder, or chili.

Coach's Famous Breaded Cod Dinner
Lightly breaded cod, deep fried to a golden brown
Additional pieces of cod available.

Poor Man's Lobster
Cod filet baked till flaky, lobster texture

Blue Gill Platter
Just like the ones from the summer lake, fried to a golden brown

Perch Platter
Delicious fried lake perch filets

Walleye Filet Platter
Fresh pan fried or deep fried walleye filets

Shrimp Platter
Lightly breaded, fried sweet shrimp, homemade cocktail sauce

Fisherman's Platter
A selection of our favorites - 4 perch, 3 blue gill, 2 shrimp, and 1 cod lightly breaded then fried
