Contingent Gathering in Kenosha - Sunday March 26th

Hello Contingent Members,

Assuming we don't get really bad winter weather in March, would anyone like to meet up in Kenosha on a Sunday in March (Just not March 5th because I will still be in Sarasota, FL)?  I've got a great list of places we can visit and the last trip there in July was a blast.  PieDiva's pies stole the show!

Let me know guys!

Thanks,
Danny

If I'm around I'll probably be interested, but the weather might not be conducive to strolls along the lakefront!

I'll bet your list includes some of the places we missed last summer because of the July 4 holiday.

Brad,

Yes, the list includes some places we avoided due to the 4th of July parade last time.  I have a coworker who used to live in Kenosha and he used to visit some of the places on the list.  I will post it if we get enough people interested.

I'm sort of surprised you didn't ask why we can't do this trip on a Saturday...

While that would certainly be my preference I remember that your work schedule pretty much rules out Saturdays for you unless you take time off.

However, if you think Kenosha's worth burning a vacation day then yes, I'm all for a Saturday!

Probably, since everybody knows that Augusta, Georgia is just no place to be.

The 12th and 26th are possible for us.

We've also been meaning to return to Salute Italian in Racine for pizza if it fits in. My cousins took us there over the holidays and we really enjoyed the restaurant.

Escaped from Chicago to Kenosha in 1980 and moved to Racine in 1990. Mike and Angelo's and Well's Bros offer the best pizza in Racine. Kewpee's for best, greasiest double cheeseburger and Sebastian's for dinner. Racine also has a bunch of kringle bakeries. I'm in Tampa/St Pete's the last week end in March.

For Kenosha, my vote goes to:
The Spot Drive-In
Big Star (if open)
A shopping trip to Tenuta's Deli(we did this tour years ago and it was a smashing success)bring your coolers
Coffee Pot for breakfast
Renzo's for a calzone
Captain Mike's, down by the lake for a cheeseburger and wonderful chili mac & cheese
Andrea's for a malt, home made soup, and a grilled cheese. This is a classic cigar store with a real soda fountain.

Here is the list I came up with based on my research here on Roadfood and the "Burgers of Wisconsin" thread on LTH.  I am excluding places we visited last July; however, I am definitely up for revisiting a place if that is what the group wants to do.

I've been wanting to visit Interstate Dogs for a while now.  Seeing how CSD recommends it, I was thinking we would start their around 11:00 AM.

Other options:
Andy's Drive-In
Frank's Diner
Ron's Place
The Coffee Pot
Andrea's
Renzo's - Never heard of this place until CSD mentioned it on this thread.  Online reviews are fantastic!

As for dinner, I was thinking we can do Captain Mike's (the burgers got rave reviews on LTH) or Salute Italian up in Racine.

Let me know what you guys think.  I want this to be a group effort.  Once we figure out where we want to eat, I am going to hire Brad (ScreamingChicken) to figure out the logistics for this trip

The 5th is doubtful and the 12th is definitely out for me but the 26th looks good, although I'm disappointed that the dinner stop won't be a detour to Red's Steak and BBQ...

If 11am is the official starting time we definitely need 1 or 2 warmup stops beforehand!

Hey, you can join me in Dallas Fort Worth next July, or join ChiBears15, ChickenPlucker , ChiTownDiner (he isn't aware that he's going yet...but he will be!)  and I in Atlanta the weekend before.

Andy's is a great little drive-in. The owners are my neighbors. Their burgers are made from the same meat as the Spot Drive-In from Brossman's in Racine. Ron's sister Judy, sold the business a while ago and it is no longer family owned. It's not the same.  Captain Mike's is the best choice for a bar burger. I like it better than Kuma's Corner or AJ Bomber's. The Coffee Pot is owned by a Julie, a former waitstaff from Frank's Diner. When Julie opened the Coffee Pot, she took Juan, Frank's top line cook. Sitting at the counter and watching him work the flat grill is worth the trip. I ate breakfast every Friday morning at Frank's from 1980 until the Coffee Pot opened. I prefer the Coffee Pot. They serve a great Garbage Plate.
