How does Sunday the 29th at 2pm work for everyone?  With the next day being Monday after a long holiday weekend I'm guessing that a lot of people will be looking to wind down at home Sunday night.

Just a quick bump to make a request of the group.

I initially said Sunday would be preferred over Saturday.  There's now a work opportunity that has arisen for Sunday.  So, I'm just trying to get a sense of whether people have already committed to Sunday or if there's any flexibility.

If the group is locked into Sunday, I'll make a decision as to work or play.  But choosing Saturday would be helpful.

Please disregard.  I jumped the gun on this.  Sunday should be fine.

Thanks,
Buddy

Please make sure they fill out the paperwork ahead of time so that they can be issued the proper Contingent guest IDs.

I have a couple of questions. Do we need reservations for a party this size? And secondly, Ann, are we giving you a ride?

Seriously PD, do you think Ann would leave Bob in his current condition for AYCE chicken?

OK, that's a really dumb question.

I used the "Contact Us" form on The Hideaway's website to inquire about a reservation for 12 to 16 people.  There's a banquet room but I don't think there'll be enough of us for that.

I think we might have at least the minimum for a reservation.  There are 10 names signed up on the Doodle Poll.  Add in Mrs. Roadhouse and Mrs. ChickenDude(?), plus abe_froeman's two guests and we're up to 14.  If we get any surprise, last minute guests, we might even surpass 16.

Thank you to abe for bumping this thread.

If you don't take the poll you have to wait in the car.

Mrs. Chicken may be puppysitting for our younger daughter so she probably won't know if she's going to go until the weekend.

Looking at the Doodle Poll, the guest list looks like this:

abe_froeman and Mr. Maki = 2 + 2 guests
ScreamingChicken = 1 (maybe 2)
BuddyRoadhouse & Mrs. = 2
Pie Diva, JRPfeff & Martin = 3
MilwFoodlovers = 1
chicagostyledog & Nina = 2
ann peeples = 1 (tentative)
cjucoder = 1

Add in stricken_detective with 1 and we've got 15 for sure with a possibility for 17.

I've sent out PMs to absent friends to make sure they're aware of this outing.

irisarbor and quijote are definitely out.  Waiting to hear from others.

See you all Sunday at 2pm.

The reservation has been made.

It's in my name for 16 people at 2pm tomorrow, and the nice lady I spoke with said if necessary we can always squeeze in an extra chair or 2.  Which is good, because I don't think anyone wants to have Buddy sitting in his or her lap.

She said that partially separate checks would be fine as long as we told our server(s) right away.

You never know.  Depending on the individual, I might want to have them sitting on my lap.

The only thing that would bring us back is the company.

We enjoyed the pizza, burger & deep fried mac & cheese, but the Hideaway is a long drive from home.

Sorry if there was dissatisfaction with The Hideaway.  We enjoyed pretty much everything we had.  All the apps were good, especially the Mac & Cheese bites and the Garlic Alfredo Steak Pizza.  Our chicken dinners, while not in the same strata as Stroud's were good, albeit uneven.  Good house-made Mashed Potatoes made up for the lackluster cole slaw.

I'm waiting to hear the verdict from our resident Fried Chicken expert, HolleringHen.  But no pressure.

All in all a fine afternoon spent with good friends, sharing more than serviceable (although not outstanding) food.

I'm waiting to hear the verdict from our resident Fried Chicken expert, HolleringHen.  But no pressure.

Of course there was no pressure because then it would've been broasted chicken, not fried.  And the only thing I'm an expert at is knowing what I like.

I thought the chicken was pretty good because of the semi-flaky crust, but like a lot of fried chicken I've encountered I would've liked the meat to have had more seasoning.  When I grill chicken here at home I often salt/season the meat as much as 2 or 3 days ahead of time, and while that does add more labor (and more cost in the restaurant business) I think it makes a big difference.  The thigh was the best piece and the wing and drumstick were OK, and the breast is in the fridge waiting to be reheated tomorrow night.

I also liked the potatoes and while I won't speculate on the source of the gravy, it didn't seem too salty to me.  Coleslaw?  Never touch the stuff.  I sampled a small piece of the sausage pizza and liked the crispy, thin crust, although the sauce could've been a little less sweet.

But the absolutely hands-down best thing was the French onion soup.  It was a little thicker than I usually like but the broth was excellent and the cheese was nicely melted and browned, and I'll bet it can be ordered light on the onions without any trouble.  I can see why the MFLs go there and get crocks of soup and split the dinner.

JRPfeff made a good point about distance.  It's at least 70 miles for me to get to The Hideaway so if I was to decide on a return trip based solely on the food I'd have to think about it, but if I lived 15-20 minutes away I'd likely eat there from time to time.
