Cotham's Mercantile destroyed in fire

Bad news from Arkansas.  One of the most famous restaurants in the entire state, Cotham's Mercantile, burned down yesterday.  They were well known for their giant hubcap burgers.

Even if they do decide to rebuild, it does not seem likely they could duplicate that unique building and atmosphere.  Still, here is hoping they find a way to reopen.

That is a very sad turn of events. 2017 was that building's 100th anniversary.

I have kept the Cotham's review posted at Roadfood.com, adding a caution about the fire, in hopes they they are able to rebuild. As Cliff says, that building and its decor could never be duplicated, but let's hope the hubcap burger survives.

So too d7676ed sad. Such places are such rare treasures. When I think of all the chain restaurants around here which are alive and well and such a fine establishment burns down, I could just spit. Looked up news articles on it. It's ALL gone except the pillars and it burned a utility pole as well, leaving a lot of people in the dark. Must have been awfully hot and burned like tinder. I wonder if it had smoldered for a while? Sure hope it wasn't arson. I looked at their website and saw they had an item called a QUADRUPLE  Hubcap! Jiminez! I'd have a hard time getting through half a regular one. That old building sure had a tilt on its stilts, didn't it. I've lived in at least two homes on pillars and I can relate. I come from Morgantown, WV, originally, and our home was on a hillside much like that. Come to think of it. I've lived on at least houses on pillars, including the present one. I'd be more nervous about it if I let myself think about it. Just have to hope you never slide into the ravine.." />

This really is sad. I loved my visit there a little over a year ago.
