Dallas TX Weekend of July 21 2017- Times and Dates!-

I think since we're only a month away it's time to post now

After a 12 year absence I will be returning to the Dallas Fort Worth area beginning Wednesday afternoon July 19 and will be leaving quickly after breakfast on Sunday Jun 23. I will be solo on this trip- Sandra will not  be joining me.

I finally figured out my itinerary and thought that Friday  and/or Saturday would be most conducive for a meet up of some of the Dallas folks.  Lunch/Dinner or both are fine

I know I've discussed this previously with TwinWillow and Metroplex Jim and I just  confirmed that Schlotz is definitely in
Any one else ?- I know PLB is in the area too and I haven't seen him since Glee Club Austin - and that was 10 years ago!

Based on logistics (hours and locations) this is what I was thinking

July 21

Friday- Lunch- Slow Bone   1PM
           Dinner- El Ranchito  7PM

July 22
Saturday-  Lunch- Ranchman's Ponder Steakhouse 1PM
                Dinner- Pecan Lodge 7PM

Please let me know who is interested and which locale(s) would work for everyone

Count me is for at least the lunch in Ponder.
I've been meaning to go out there for a while.

Regarding 'suggestions', I'll defer to Michael who is the true Dallas expert.  He has never steered me (or any other RF'er) wrong'.

Count me in for Friday dinner at El Ranchito for sure! And possibly, Friday lunch at
Slow Bone or, Saturday dinner at Pecan Lodge. Can't do both but, would love to try Pecan Lodge.
I'd also recommend Lucky's for breakfast one morning.
Looking forward to seeing y'all!

Glad you can join us too.
I would love to fit in Lucky's for breakfast but I think my eyes are now much bigger than my stomach. Of course that doesn't mean I have to finish everything that's on my plate.

We're leaving for Washington DC Thursday evening for an extended weekend trip (Sandra's 17 year old kid is coming with us-so this will be quite different from any other trip that we've taken together) After I get back from that trip- I'll put the finishing touches on the final plans for this trip.

Ok

I checked out Lucky's breakfast menu- King Ranch Chicken Enchilada's and Eggs??!! Ok, I am there- I think Thursday morning will work (either after or before one of three coffee houses I selected for this trip) My plan Thursday is to  go to Joe T. Garcia's for Lunch, explore Fort Worth and then take the drive to Strawn TX to visit what is supposedly one of the best chicken fried steaks in Texas at Mary's Cafe for dinner.

Lucky's also offers a full bar. I hate to be so opinionated but, I'm not a great fan of
Joe T. Garcia's. But that said, it is an institution in Fort Worth. I'd rather see you try one of Tim Love's restaurants. Or, Cattleman's at the stockyards.

I've heard mixed reviews about Joe T Garcia's but it is an institution, and I've never been,  besides I heard they're lunch menu is a little more diverse and that their fajita nacho's are actually pretty good.
I'm one step ahead of you-  Cattleman's will be my dinner stop Wednesday night (The day I arrive in the Metroplex) I also plan to visit Tolbert's in Grapevine for a bowl of texas red that afternoon too.

**edit**  and Norma's is slated for breakfast on Sunday before I head north and then east.

Count on me for Ranchman's...
I'll have to see how things shake out to commit to anything on Friday.

Looks like you have a great itinerary in the works...

One very nice thing about Joe T Garcia's is their spectacular outside dining area. Just beautiful! I hope the weather will cooperate the day you're there.

We are scheduled to arrive back into DFW from a vacation at 5:00 pm on Saturday the 22ed.  So depending on the flight, customs, the restaurant, and the time, we may be able to make the Sat. dinner.  Hope to see you all (as we say here in TX).

Yes, by all means request outdoor seating at Joe T's; that is an integral part of dining there.   And, be aware that they are "cash only".

We really liked Tolbert's; you'll enjoy it.  Of course, you will begin your lunch with a cup or bowl of Texas Red, but the rest of their menu is quite tasty as well.

Hoping you both can make it- It would great to see you again after all of these years

Thanks for the heads up on the cash only at Joe T  Garcia's
I may have to just settle for a bowl of red at Tolbert's, I plan on stopping before arriving in Dallas at the Pioneer Cafe  (a recent Jane Stern review) in Sulphur Springs for yet another bowl of red- and that doesn't include my first stop late that morning for an early Cajun Lunch at Marilynn's place in Shreveport. So potentially 4 meals that day!

This will certainly be an epic trip- between Dallas, seeing ChiBears15 and Chickenplucker in Atlanta the weekend before and the roadtrip to and from which includes stopping in Charlotte,  Leesville-Batesburg SC and Columbia  before Atlanta, then Birmingham, Shreveport before Dallas and then Oklahoma City, Alma AR, Little Rock, Nashville and Chatanooga before flying home from Atlanta- this will be a 13 day trip!

** Edit**

Sandra and I and her 17 year old are flying out to Washington DC tomorrow for an extended 4 day weekend. There won't be a whole lot of roadfood on this trip, mostly sight seeing, and Sandra's old college friend plans on making us dinner on Friday eveing- but we do plan to stop at Old Ebbitt Grill, Sunday for dinner as well as a middle eastern restaurant called Mama Ayeeha in Adams Morgan on Saturday night.

Wondering why you chose Mama Ayeeha.......................we found it very ordinary!

Well, I really didn't . Our friends did, sought of. I asked if there were any good Middle Eastern Restaurants, our friend suggested Mama Ayesha's. I then checked the yelp and trip advisor  reviews- 4 out of 5 stars- ok with me.
Then we had to check the menu because Sandra's son has Krohn's. That seemed fine, finally it's in Adams Morgan and we'll be going Saturday night. so the neighborhood aspect was important too for the Adams Morgan vibe.

**edit***

This isn't really a food trip at all- this is a sight seeing trip as well as an opportunity for Sandra to see her friend from college.
Old Ebbitt Grill was my pick. We will also do Tryst for coffee and breakfast, I also suggested another place for breakfast  called Busboys and Poets

Another place I would love to visit for lunch is a DC institution- CF Folks either Friday or Monday but we won't know until the day of depending on the daily specials and whether they would be ok for Sandra's kid.

Just want to keep this thread alive. I begin my trip next Wednesday evening when I fly to Atlanta.
I should have some internet access while I'm away- I don't think I'm bringing my laptop but there is always computer access at the hotels (or my smart phone) and we can get final confirmations as well as times to meet up

So far we have the following

July 21
Friday Lunch

Slowbone- tentatively Twin Willow and tentatively Schlotz

Friday Dinner

El Ranchito- Twin Willow and tentatively Schlotz

 July 22
Saturday Lunch

Ranchman's Ponder Steakhouse- Schlotz and Metroplex Jim

Saturday Dinner

Pecan Lodge  tentatively Twin Willow , tentatively PLB and Schlotz ?
(hopefully Metroplex Jim can join us here too and we can have the whole gang!)

I'll be driving to Charlotte NC early Thursday morning (I plan to stay in the outer, outer northern suburbs of Atlanta overnight on Wednesday so I can avoid the rush hour traffic) so my first stop will be Lexington #1 BBQ in Lexington for lunch then dinner with my cousin and her family in Charlotte (Not sure where she will be taking me)

If you stay in Marietta there's a really good diner there, Marietta Diner. 24 hr service and some really great food. Be a great stop for breakfast.

Actually I'll be staying in the Suwanee/Buford area right off 85. But thanks for the rec. I'm probably going to have a light breakfast and did find a coffee house or two about 10 miles north up 85- it's just a matter of deciding which one I'm going to stop at
