Dead

I am sad to see that very few people post on this site anymore. No one talks, everyone yells a lot at at each other. I joined because of Al.  Anyway, life goes on. I cannot afford my friends meet ups, but I enjoy them.

I am with you ann.  I used to be a frequent visitor, years back.  Now... due to the contentiousness, I rarely visit.

It indeed is sad to recall what this site once was... and what it has turned in to be.

By the way, ann... you have always been one of my favorites.

I've been too busy with just one sandwich, a breaded pork tenderloin, to venture far off Facebook. I'm up over 21,000 members and have been adding one member an average of every 6 minutes around the clock for the past week. I just thought I would take a break.

Ann,

I think Facebook has pulled away a lot of activity from RF.

Here are the following reasons why people left
-A. you are correct in your title- many prolific roadfooders have passed on
-B.  besides facebook many have moved on to other facets of social media- so essentially  forums in general are long "dead"
-C. Several "posters" were not here to talk about Roadfood anyway, got bored and left and unfortunately many are still here.
-D. And I can tell you based on my personal knowledge- at least the whole Boston crew left because they were  frustrated that there is no real discussion of Roadfood and in addition  were disgusted with the way I was being treated by a few select "posters" to the point a few were actually afraid to continue to post.
Several roadfooders actually messaged me on facebook , sent me an e-mail or PM  stating "I'm not going to mess with so and so"

I agree Ann! The thing I miss is what the members of this site brought to the site. I miss the heart and soul members brought when making trip reports. For anyone who ever did a trip report it really is a labor of love. It takes a lot for the person to take pictures of the food and then take all the pictures and make a story of their trip. Look at the trip reports over the years. Then see all the interaction from other members. I remember a few comments that stuck with me after doing a trip report. I remember some people saying " I can't travel anymore but it's wonderful reading the trip reports and seeing the pictures and enjoying the trip through the narration". The reports gave many people a chance to enjoy travel through the friends they made on this site.

What's put me off is the nastiness and mean spirited comments from a few posters. If I want to read/listen to unpleasantness, I can always read the papers and watch the news! Why these few bad apples are allowed to continue is something I don't understand.

I must say, this forum format really discourages posting. I'm on another forum that one can post pictures directly, link the thread to twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, and generally operate in a 2018 fashion.
And FB is always there. In addition to
the BPT group, I'm in the same KC one as Ketteract and it has 25,000 members. I'm connected on FB with a bunch of folks met here, to the point I now can't remember who a lot were here under their stage names.

Re: Dead 2018/02/26 10:59:03 (permalink)
A lot of the problem is that people don't come up with new posts where we can all join in and of course we can't all eat out and travel to new places all of the time...  or ever.  We live through the eyes and taste buds of others!

I can't discuss wild rice in Minnesota or Walleye in Ohio (not singling out) other than I'd love to try them or learn how to prepare them.  But I enjoy reading about them and all of the other regional foods I've never had and would love to try.

Coming up with topics that aren't specifically Roadfood help because they bring some of us together for discussion.  Being too specific limits the conversation because we can't all join in.

I don't like the nastiness that occurs but that is common on all chat boards. It's not just here.  For some reason chat boards seem to bring out personalities and words we'd normally stifle in a face to face situation.   There's also that "last word" situation that prolongs the arguments.

My answer is join in!  Add to Roadfood one way or another!

So what did you have for dinner last night?
