Devil Dogs

A wonderful thing happened today. After more than 47 years of having to travel back to Connecticut for that most wonderful confection, a Drake's Devil Dog, I discovered a display of those marvelous cream-filled Devils Food treats in a Meijer supermarket a couple of miles up the road in Columbus. The box is almost empty. Tomorrow I shall buy new boxes. Life is good again.

I'll have to look for them at my local Meijer and give them a try (the Meijer website says they're available at the Meijer here in Florence).

Indeed, from one Drake's lover in childhood to another...a wonderful thing!

I'm happy for you.

I loved them when I was a kid and periodically go through periods when I eat them again.

I always went for Drake's chocolate cupcakes over the Devil Dogs...more cake, less crème.

I don't think I've even seen a Devil Dog, but Stephen King makes a brief reference to them in "Christine".

Yeah, my local Meijer carries them, too. I guess they've had them for about the last 9-12 months or so.

Looking at the Drake's Product Locator you should be able to find Devil Dogs at Save A Lot, Menards and Walmart as well.

I'm happy to see there is a second childhood. I was too young to enjoy the first one. Toss me a frisbee pie tin and will talk.....

Michael, I can't find any in Washington or Oregon. If you think about it, after taking a bite of a DD you always look at it. I think we are wondering how something so simple can be so good.

You know, I never had a full-size Frisbee pie. I used to get the nickel pies -- especially lemon and pineapple ones. One of those little tins could really hurt, especially when you were lucky enough to hit a kid in the face.

You poor guys we have tons of Devil Dogs in stores here in Mass and Table Talk pies to. They are made here in Worcester Mass.  The small ones at 3 for $2.00 at Market Basket supermarkets, Table Talk makes them as a store brand. I can remember as a kid in Boston the Drakes cake plant in Dorchester. Also the Burwick Woopie Pie plant too.

They are available online at a number of places. Horribly overpriced on Amazon, but better prices elsewhere. Just depends on how bad you want them, I guess!

I don't think I've ever heard of Oronoque Farms before. I do remember seeing Table Talk pies at the A&P in Old Lyme.
