Edison, NJ Indian Food?

Hi all,

Long story but can anyone recommend Indian or Pakistani restaurants in and around Edison, NJ? I'm told it's the center of South Asian immigration in the U.S. so there must be something good.

Thanks,

Emily

Don't know a place in NJ, but I know Brooklyn has a large Pakistani community - around Coney Island Avenue & Ave. H.

I no longer work in the area (and the two restaurants I used to go to are gone) but this subject comes up quite often on this group:

Note that the site is somewhat difficult to use (threads are chronological from original post date) and takes awhile to load.
Use your "Edit-Find on this page" feature for "Indian" and you'll get many hits of Edison Indian threads, starting with 4/24/05.

Oak Tree Road has a TON of Indian restaurants, grocery stores, video stores, clothing stores, jewelry places, etc. You can't go wrong there.

While Edison, NJ seems to be the epicenter of South Asian migration (largely due to the good school system), the bulk of the Indian restaurants, groceries, jewelers, etc. are actually located in the adjacent community of Iselin, NJ.

The street that was mentioned (Oak Tree Road) goes through both Iselin and Edison, but you will find that only a few of the places that you will be interested in are on the Edison side of the border. If you concentrate on the Iselin section of Oak Tree Road, you will find at least 10 restaurants to choose from within a distance of about 1/2 mile, and they are all authentic.

Note that traffic congestion tends to be heavy on weekends, and parking is limited. You will probably have to resort to parking on a side street, and walking a bit, as many of these restaurants do not have parking lots.
