RE: Fenway Franks
As long as you like the Fenway Franks as served in Boston, it doesn't matter if it one of America's premier hot dogs. The bun you mentioned is known as a New England frankfurter roll, and is real popular in Massachusetts. The franks themselves were developed by the old Colonial Provision Company of Boston. Colonial also used to sell them through New England supermarkets such as Finast (now part of Stop & Shop.) Colonial was bought out. I understand one of the plants of Sara Lee (Kahn's, Ball Park, Hygrade, Hillshire Farm, etc.) is now making Fenway Franks. They are only actively marketed in the northeast, and are still available in supermarkets.
I always thought they were a typical supermarket frank. Please note I was raised on New Yotk kosher-style franks.
