Field Report: Zarzour’s Cafe (est. 1918)

Tried to eat here yesterday and was rebuffed by a worker. Shannon, the owner and grill cook was off, and the gal operating the diner in her stead was done working for the day, and it was within operating hours. It'll be a year before I can return.

Strange. If she was over her head, such as working alone, not able to keep up or out of food, I suppose that's THAT. I hope she was polite about it, though. Otherwise, do they really want your business? Maybe she was a last minute recruit and not really up to the job. How disappointing, though....

We visited Zarzour's once well after they were "closed" and Shannon happily fixed us a couple cheeseburgers, then sat at our table for an hour and regaled us with tales of the old diner's history. When they made her they broke the mold.

I'm sure Shannon is a class act. If you can get hold of her, it might be worthwhile to let her know your experience. I'm sure that she'd want to know so as to avoid bad business. Being closed during business hours sure wouldn't make friends. Hopefully, it was an isolated incident.

When I visit Shannon next year I'll let her know but I predict the bad apple will have already been canned.
