cj-Sorry you can't make it, even sorrier about the suffering you're going through due to that broken leg.  Many wishes for a complete recovery.  As per your instructions, a few fried pickles might be consumed.

X1- I've added your name to the confirmed guest list.  No backing out now.

Back in early June, I had an emergency business trip to Chicago.  The single most important commercial item we buy for the equipment we build was not manufactured correctly and I drove them out to be fixed.  Miraculously, the ham cam company was able to remachine them all in one day, which allowed me to slip over the cheddar curtain for a burger at Fred's.  Sorry I wasn't able to let others know ahead of time, but I didn't know it was a possibility until the last minute.

Anyway, I ordered one of the daily specials, called the cowboy burger with cheddar, bacon and bbq sauce on it

and it was very good.  The toasted bun was a nice touch.  If memory serves me right, they had Sprecher's root beer on tap and I enjoyed two big frosty mug's worth.  All of the small tables were occupied, so I asked an elderly couple at a table for six if I could join them and they were happy to have the company.  They said that they don't go out to eat much anymore, but still go to Fred's a couple of times a week.

bb,
You are correct sir. Sprecher's Root Beer on tap is a staple at Fred's and many other bars and taverns throughout Wisconsin.  A frosty mug or two is definitely in my future.

I wonder how Sprecher's Root Beer mixes with Screaming Chicken liqueur...

We will be there with Screaming Chicken.

Look up "screaming chicken" in one of those "urban dictionaries" and I'm pretty sure you're not going to be a fan of that stuff based on its color alone.

I suspect Mrs. C will probably have to work that day so pencil me in for one.

We were thinking we'd go, but now I noticed I'm working that day.  As of right now, I'll be done with work at 12:30, which would be perfect to get to Burlington by 2:00.  But I could end up working later, so I'll have to play it by ear.

If you're riding with Buddy, tell him to be ready by 11am.  Should work out just fine.

We may have a couple more additions to the guest list as I am currently putting the squeeze on MilwFoodlovers to join us.  Also, I knuckled under and booked a hotel in Racine for Friday night, so we'll start our day closer to Burlington.  As God is my witness, we will not be late to the party!

More updates as they become available.

If you're going to be that close, Fred's opens at 10:30...I'd rather be ahead of the rush than behind.

Are there any plans for anyone who's not going to Irish Fest after Fred's?  Still not totally sure about whether we'll be there at all (as of right now, I have to work until 11, which would be plenty of time to get there), but just wondering what we'll do after if not Irish Fest.  I suppose we haven't been to Wedl's yet this year....we'd take the scenic route while we digest Fred's.

No plans here, and anything working back toward Madison/Janesville is good.  I've been wanting to hit a few places in Elkhorn...

Only if it'll still be there when I check in.

CaterwaulingBarnyardFowl,
We could potentially meet earlier, but that might put a strain on abe_froeman and Mr. Maki being able to get there on time.

Here are a few other restaurants I think are worthy of investigation, if anyone wants to venture outside of Burlington before or after Fred's.

Larducci (dining ala trunk) in Elkhorn.  Holi Cannoli makes a good thin-crust, coal-fired pizza just north of town, but both places don't open until 4pm.

In historic Delavan Los Agaves has a good reputation and is open early in case anyone's up for a pre-Fred's snack.  A couple of years ago the owner also had a food truck but I don't know if it's still in operation.

Just up I-43 in East Troy is LD's BBQ, which could be a stop for anyone coming from or returning to the Milwaukee area.

Idk if I can come now. This tendonitis is not only a pain in my foot, but also a pain elsewhere.

In that case, do we want to move up the meeting time?  Looking for feedback folks!
