We're just over a month away from The Contingent's annual barnstorming of Fred's so I thought I'd reignite this thread for all interested parties.

Saturday, August 20th is the big day.  As usual, our visit to Fred's is tied into our Irish Fest weekend.  The talent lineup looks fairly ordinary this year, so we could be looking for other diversions in SE Wisconsin.  Anyone interested in making a day of it is welcome to chime in with ideas.

While reviewing my calendar just now, I wondered about this, so hopped on here to see if there was any discussion about it. I can't say for absolute certain now (I may have a work event that weekend), but August 20 probably looks good, at least for me (can't speak for Quijote #2).

I don't have anything to ad here, but I wondered if my post would help to banish the Spam that covers almost all of the front page.

What's the itinerary for this outing?  Mr. Maki and I may have to leave in the evening (6:30-ish), so we just want to have an idea of what's going on.

So far, the only firm plan is Fred's at our usual time, 2pm.  After that it's up for grabs.  We'll try to firm things up during the week.

Three years ago we had burgers at John's Main Event after visiting Fred's (go back a few pages in the thread), and the consensus was that sometime we needed to hit John's first and Fred's second to even things up.  Is 2016 the year?

As for things to do after Fred's, I'd like to point out that on that Saturday, from 9 am - 7pm, Sendik's in Franklin will be roasting Hatch Chile Peppers.
You can pre-order fresh or roasted peppers at sendiks.com/Hatch

I'd be up for a pre-Fred's stop at John's.

For those of you coming from the south and/or east who've never done so, take WI-11 around Burlington's southern border, exit at Pine Street, and come into town past the Nestle plant.  Make sure the windows are rolled down.

Hatch chiles & Fred's, are you thinking what I'm thinking? We may never need to go to New Mexico again.

Are we thinking about a pre-Fred's stop at Sendik's?  Maybe pick up a few roasted Hatch Chiles and make our own GCCBs?

Not sure Fred's would appreciate us bringing in our own toppings.  Might need to be a covert operation.  Pick up the Chiles, chop them up in the Sendik's parking lot, then carry them into Fred's in a Tupperware container concealed in our clothing.  Kinda like underage teens sneaking beer into a BYOB restaurant.  Sounds fun!

I actually wasn't planning that. Haha. It's easy for us to stop on the way down, but for you guys to pass Burlington to Franklin, and turn back around seems silly.

We might get a hotel in Brookfield Friday night, making a stop at Sendik's easier.  Is the Franklin store the only one with the Hatch Chile promotion?  Of course there are others living in the area who might pick them up on their way.  Say, someone from Pewaukee...

Shall we say 2pm on the sidewalk between John's and Fred's?  We can flip a coin and decide which one to hit first.

After that, any street festivals or ethnic fairs in the area we can visit?  Other activities?  Clean up crew on the north side?

BTW & FWIW, the similarly upscale Heinen's stores, south of the Cheddar Curtain, are also running a Hatch Chile promo next week.  Coincidentally, I'll be doing demos in those stores 8/25-28.  If they follow last year's example, their soup bar will include a killer Hatch Chile Chowder!BTW & FWIW, the similarly upscale Heinen's stores, south of the Cheddar Curtain, are also running a Hatch Chile promo next week.  Coincidentally, I'll be doing demos in those stores 8/25-28.  If they follow last year's example, their soup bar will include a killer Hatch Chile Chowder!

Other stores are, but different days.
Oh, Brookfield? We got this new restaurant there...Portillo's. Maybe you've heard of it?

Probably not.  Chicago's hot dog culture isn't nearly as strong as Milwaukee's.

Since the Roadhouses might be staying in Brookfield Friday night and will therefore have a much shorter trip, and since we're tentatively planning on eating at 2 places instead of 1, would anyone have any objections to moving the start time up to 1:00?  By the time we get seated and place our orders it'll probably be at least 1:15 and possibly later.  But if everyone wants to keep it at 2:00 that's fine, too.

That could be an issue. If Sendik's is slow & you have to make up time...

Buddy - Our route that day will take us through Elkhorn first. We planned on Franklin on the way home.

Haven't booked the hotel yet.  Still weighing the cost factor.  As of now, we're still leaving from home.  If we decide to get the hotel, we'll let you know ASAP.  In that case, a 1pm meeting time will be fine.

Just checked the Sendik's weekly ad.  We can pre-order Roasted Hatch Chiles by the pound, specifying a heat intensity of either medium or hot.  1-10 pounds will cost $3.49/pound; 11-25 pounds will run $2.99/pound.

IF we were to get the hotel room in Brookfield (should know for sure by late Wednesday), would anyone else like to go in on getting some Hatch Chiles for home use?  The Sendik's weekly ad has instructions on how to freeze and store large quantities.

Genuinely appreciate the recommendation, but breakfast is not my favorite meal of the day.  Plus, if we're talking about hitting John's and Fred's and Adrian's for Frozen Custard, I'll be bypassing the flapjacks that morning.
