Hmmm....now to start working on my Colorado/Utah List- only 4  months away..
Funny thing is we're going to New York (Just NJ and Long Island) next weekend,  weather permitting and I have no idea where we will be going for meals. The only thing I do know is we'll be visiting friends and checking out https://www.nps.gov/sahi/index.htm

Now back to your "what's for dinner" thread.....

Dale, if you have a little extra time it would be well spent in Staunton, "The Queen City of the Shenandoah Valley".  It is rich in both Victorian architecture and dining possibilities.  It exudes charm and is one of those places that, when visiting, is guaranteed to generate wistful though of living there -- something I had the good fortune to do for nearly six most enjoyable years and many wonderful meals at Mrs. Rowe's (which was there even before I-81).

Edit:  BTW, did you ever post anything about either Harbor House Café (Sunset Beach, CA) or the Ponder Steakhouse (Ponder, TX)?  If so, I somehow missed them, though I don't know how.

We'll likely be in Staunton on the last day of our trip- we can probably get up early enough and spend part of the morning there but I suspect Sandra will want us to get to Lancaster PA around lunchtime in order to get  together  with her cousins.  It appears this will be a long day for us. Luckily Modern Pizza is open till 10PM on Sundays so having a later dinner should be ok.

I didn't do any trip reports this year so you hadn't missed Harbor House Cafe or Ponder Steakhouse (actually you didn't miss Ponder at all- I was with you! ) but the Ponder Steakhouse and our meet up there will be mentioned in my end of the year report.

Our trip begins  exactly 3 months from today and already there is some bad news...

First I'll start with the rumors:
Rumor has it that Sokolowski's in Cleveland may be closing for good as the family members are strongly considering retirement....if this should happen, then hopefully it will take place after our visit.

Rumor has it that once again,  Santa Fe Bite in Santa Fe NM may have to look for new digs ... again if this should happen, hopefully it will after our visit.

It seems that 2018 is the year for long standing restaurants to go out of business or catch on fire..
Sartins a legendary restaurant in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area of Texas since 1972 has closed their last roadhouse style restaurant (there used to be 3 or 4 locations) and recently still had 2 and have reopened in the food court section at the local shopping mall- so that's now out... Luckily I did research and found out that  Judice's Cajun Café will be reopening their second location in the old Sartin's building and they DO have bbq crab on the menu..

Chris Madrid's in San Antonio TX experienced a fire a few months back, initially they planned on reopening in late spring- they are working out of a food truck now with a makeshift enclosed area for seating and are now planning to reopen late summer- Well- our visit in early October will be well after late summer so I'm really hoping the grand reopening will be in full swing.

The biggest disappointment for us is the Millstone Tea Room in Bedford VA, shut it's doors earlier this spring.
A very popular established local standby since 2001, we were really looking forward to their fried chicken and spoon bread... Although the place was extremely popular and always busy, the owners (a husband and wife team) also had two other restaurants in town they were owning/operating and had to close the Millstone Tea Room because it was just too much on their plate- Sadly their other restaurants do not have fried chicken, or spoon bread on the menu so we will have to look elsewhere.

I checked my list and there does not appear to be any issues so far...but three months is a long time and anything can happen between now and then.
