Future trips into next year.

We (I) are  pretty much done as far as trips are concerned for this year. There is a weekend trip to NYC and possibly either  a weekend trip to either Albany or Vermont planned for November but I don't see either breaking new ground. This year took us (or in some cases just I) to the West Coast, The South, The Midwest and around New England/North East and although there wasn't much Roadfooding, the Mid Atlantic

I plan to get a jump start on my end of the year report and will do so after the Thanksgiving weekend.

Next year I plan to visit every region of the country with the exception of the West Coast.
If good fortune continues:

I will be back in Colorado and Utah in April after an absence of nearly a decade- yes my last trip out there was way back in 2009 and I think about all the things that have happened in my life since-this will be a 9 day trip and I'm glad I got my air fare- because they are rising already. There will be some ballparks on this trip.

Next summer  (hopefully July, but possibly June) will bring me on a weekend (possibly 3 day weekend) trip for baseball in the Mid Atlantic, hopefully hitting both Trenton and Wilmington DE- and a return to Maryland for just one meal-  to go to Jerry's Seafood- One of my biggest roadfood disappointments this year was not being able to visit on our DC trip back in June.

Finally next Fall Sandra and I will be embarking on our cross country roadtrip culminating on a 5 day stay in New Mexico. We are planning on over 3 weeks. lasting into October. I've already devised our route which will take us North going and South coming back.
So far I've heard from a few  Roadfooders who have expressed interest in joining/meeting us along the way.

We will be making stops as follows going:
Buffalo NY through Cleveland into Northern Indiana  through Iowa (Not sure what part of Iowa yet) into Kansas City, Wichita, Oklahoma City, Amarillo and finally New Mexico where we plan to visit Albuquerque, Taos, Santa Fe and Carlsbad Caverns.
Heading back our route will take us through:
West Texas, San Antonio and Austin, Beaumont, New Orleans, Jackson MS, Memphis, Nashville, The TN Smokey Mountains, The VA Blue Ridge Parkway back up into the Maryland Panhandle, Penn Dutch Country, and finally New Haven and back home.

Although stranger things have happened, I'm hoping everything works out as planned.

So you're leapfrogging Illinois?

Well we're only going to have a shot either Saturday or Sunday night since they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

Well, since we can't make it to Chi Town Diner's favorite city, Springfield then...yes... It looks like the I 80 south suburbs of Chicago may be an overnight stop, but you are correct there will be no Roadfooding in Illinois.

Can't happen- then our 3 1/2 week trip would turn into a 4 week trip and neither of us have that kind of time .
To do the Windy City justice, it would require a trip unto itself.

Next summer I plan to post our itinerary for those who might like to meet up or join us along the way

Who knows...if you wind up taking I-88 instead of I-80 across Illinois and you change your mind about not stopping somewhere I could possibly be convinced to burn a vacation day.

Knowing you I'm guessing that your itinerary is already 75% complete.

We already extended an open invitation to Pie Diva when we hung out with her at Kopp's so I guess that means you're invited too.

Does that include coffee somewhere in the South Chicago suburbs?
I have a very good idea of where we will go, It's just not organized yet and probably won't be for a while.
Where we go on our way down to Carlsbad and in Carlsbad is  blank right now. since there isn't really anything on the website or in the Roadfood books- - I'll have to rely on yelp- and this might be the best opportunity (for Sandra's sake) to find anything but "New Mexican food"
The route we take through Iowa is not quite clear, we have 3 options- we might do Quad Cities to Des Moines and then to Kansas City or we might skip Des Moines altogether and do Quad Cities to Pella to Kansas City or our Third Option is skip the Quad Cities and do Des Moines and Western Iowa and then to Kansas City. I have a feeling Sandra will want to go to Pella so option number 2 is most likely.

If this only could have happened last March. Sandra's middle kid is stationed in Hawaii with the marines and she really wanted to combine our San Diego trip with a visit to Hawaii, however ironically her kid was temporarily deployed to 29 Palms while we were out on the West Coast  so that wouldn't have happened anyway.

My issue is the complete opposite, since Mariton eats much hotter food than I do.  Can't begin to tell you how many times I have tried the food on her plate only to find she has doused it in Tabasco.

What I do know about the cross country trip is that it will start with this and end with that.

I may ask some forum members to choose my "off the plane" meal when I arrive in Denver.

And  although I have an idea of where I'll be going in Trenton NJ and I definitely know where I'll be going in Maryland for my one meal there, I may have to get some buffetbusterian advice for 3 or 4 selections in Delaware when I take my weekend trip to the mid atlantic next summer.
