Georgioz (Colfax, IA)
While visiting Iowa last weekend I stopped at Georgioz
(formerly Papa Georgio's
) for a late lunch. I'd been visiting the website occasionally for about a year and a half so I was glad to get a chance to stop in.
I ordered an 8" sausage and mushroom pizza; Georgioz uses sausage from Des Moines institution Graziano Brothers
Rather than try to assign any particular type of style, I'll just say that it was really good pizza. The flavorful crust was thinner than what a pan pizza's crust might be but not as thin as some thin crusts, and the toppings were excellent (Graziano's sausage has a touch of heat). While eating more pizza (at a different place) with some Des Moines locals later that evening I mentioned Georgioz and the comments were all positive.
Colfax is right off of I-80 and Georgioz is less than 5 minutes from exit 155; I would definitely suggest it as an option when passing through the area.
