Great Burgers In The L.A. Area

I've got a friend who's moved out to LaLa land and he is stuck on eating Fuddrucker's burgers. Now, he's no foodie by any stretch of the imagination but there has to be a better burger in LA. He's in the Santa Monica area (he's a Pier Docent in his spare time). Any suggestions I can give him? He's at least discovered Cali Santa Barbara style BBQ tri-tip and found he likes it).

Fuddrucker's???  That means he's used to a lot of stuff on a burger.

Apple Pan for a hickory burger but they're not big.  Just the price is.  GREAT Banana Cream Pie!

Howard's Famous Bacon Avocado burger isn't bad.

Fatburger could be bad.  Depends on the cook.

The Counter but if you like your meat cooked... tell them!

How can Tommy's at Beverly and Rampart not be on this list. Chili burger that has no equal but you have to wear short sleeve shirt to eat one.

Tommy's was one of my first stops when I visited LA a couple of years ago. It had been a fifteen year separation between me and a double chili cheese and cc fries, also hit Apple Pan for a hickory burger.

Tommy's isn't that close to Santa Monica or it would be on the list.

Used to be a place everyone would go for a Caesar's Burger in Santa Monica that was a Tommy's clone but better.  No longer.

Odd, I didn't think of In n Out or Smash Burger or that other place that is similar.

Oh.... there is Hopdoddy's in Playa Vista for the Hipster burger eaters and in Marina del Rey there is a Burger Lounge.  https://www.hopdoddy.com/

When I visited LA last Christmas, I ate at In-N-Out and really liked it, but the best burger I had during my stay was at a small LA area chain; "Hook Burger". I ate at the Pasadena location.

LA has some classic flat griddled, greasy cheeseburger joints. My favorite three are:
Irv's Burgers
Capitol Burger  www.travelchannel.com/shows/food-paradise/video/l-a-s-burger-capitol
Marty's Hamburger Stand
