Green Bay Supper Club

Looking forward to a trip to Door County.  Will be adding a Friday night in Green Bay prior to a longer stay in Door County and I am not familiar with Green Bay.  I am looking for a Super Club with the traditional fixins...either a well stocked salad bar or a table spread with cheese spread and chopped liver.  Would love prime rib also.  Ice cream drinks a must.  Atmosphere is secondary to food but important.

I have a Super Club coffee table book and it has not been to helpful as it is for the entire state.

Kropp's gets the best reviews but is only open two days a week, Wednesday and Friday (3 days after July & August) which is odd as far as keeping food fresh.  Also, on Friday nights, Kropp's doesn't serve any steaks...that's odd, it's all fish and sandwiches  Reviews are strong.

Wally's Super Club is another option but has somewhat more mixed reviews.

Not sure I want to drive 60 miles to Donny's Glidden Lodge in Sturgeon Bay.  It meets most of the parameters but it's a 120 mile round trip to our hotel...and after Brandy Alexanders...

Looking for comments on the aforementioned three spots, new recommendations or something out of the box.  Since I started this...if there's a Legendary breakfast spot in Green Bay, feel free to make a recommendation.  That would be for Saturday morning prior to heading up to Door County.

I consulted with Contingent Members at Stolly's and came up empty-handed.  Perhaps the Chickenman has some ideas...

Thanks for any advice....

I have The Black Otter in my cross hairs if I ever make it that way.  I have seen pics of the prime rib from some fellow window people.  They call it the best in the area.

It may be paired with Pittston with the bus ride between stopping at ALL Cracker Barrels...

Also, on Friday nights, Kropp's doesn't serve any steaks...that's odd, it's all fish and sandwiches.

Lots of places in Wisconsin have special Friday-only menus in order to handle the fish fry volume, and beef (especially prime rib) is much more of a Saturday night tradition.

I have no personal experience with the area but will poll some of my coworkers in our Green Bay facility to see what ideas they might have.  It'll help if you can provide the route you're taking, your planned travel times, and the part of town in which you'll be staying.

CTD, No experience w/ Wally's or Kropp's. It seems like GB has been up-scaling many of the old school places. I have heard good things about The Union Hotel https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-union-hotel-and-restaurant-de-pere?osq=Supper+Clubs--historic but not exactly what your looking for. Now, Appleton has a lot of choices...we have had nothing but great experiences at Dick and Joan's--great ice cream drinks also., and Marks East Side. Most of the traditional Supper Clubs around here will not have P. Rib on Friday. The Out-O-Town https://www.yelp.com/biz/out-o-town-supper-club-kaukauna?osq=Supper+Clubs  would be closer and has many of you wants, but have never been myself. When you are returning from Door, try to hit Texas Joe's https://www.yelp.com/biz/joes-texas-bbq-green-bay for some Que to go. I had very good Brisket a year or so ago. I will still ask around. Enjoy.

Be staying near Lambeau Field.  Driving up from the south with stops along the way for a Friday afternoon tour appointment of Lambeau.  Looking for dinner at 6pm or later that night and maybe a breakfast stop if a really Roadfoody place is found for Saturday morning.  Otherwise, we'll just head up towards Door COunty where I know the landscape.

Good stuff...thanks!  One of our party if from Appleton and he has a good handle on Appleton and south and had some of your recs on his list.  He didn't venture north much.  Trying to keep the driving down a bit as we'll be finishing the tour Lambeau around 6pm and have lots of driving planned each day.  Appreciate anything you or your co-workers find.

Thanks again!

It has been through some changes in the last few years...a beautiful setting but more "upscale" than before when it had more of a "Supper Club feel". It does have a good reputation under the new management team. As usual around here, no Prime Rib on Friday.

CTD, I have never been personally, but some friends have recommended THE GRAPEVINE CAFE  https://www.yelp.com/biz/grapevine-cafe-green-bay
In Appleton (which is not a great breakfast town) near the mall SAP is VERY Good https://www.yelp.com/biz/sap-appleton Larry also owns Carmella's Italian just a few doors down...also EXCELLENT! Hope it helps some...have a great time! Chris.

Like River's Bend, these 2 restaurants were suggested more than once:

Bay Family Restaurant, 1301 S. Military Ave.
The Pancake Place, 143 S. Military Ave. (the pancakes are apparently quite large here).

I am looking for a Super Club with the traditional fixins...

Just how "Super" does this Supper Club need to be?  I may not be able to help you with such a specific request, but I can give you some general recs for GB and points north.

Some friends of abe_froeman & Mr. Maki moved up to GB for awhile and clued us into some fine spots.  We were instantly taken with The Pasty Shop, located inside a BP gas station.  There are just a few tables inside, the rest of the operation is given over to a large open kitchen where you can watch the Pasties being made.  They're available for immediate consumption, or sold frozen for carry out and later reheating.

We also found Zesty's Frozen Custard.

IIRC, this was a Banana Pudding Sundae.

Very tasty and in the same league with Kopps.

Further up the peninsula we found Fred & Fuzzy's Waterfront Bar & Grill.  For all intents and purposes, it's an outdoor establishment right on the water's edge on Door County's west coast.  Good food, not great, but a spectacular view of the sunset.  Enjoy a Door County Cherry Juice Margarita along with a good selection of pub grub items.  We had the Fish Fry.  Can't remember if it's Friday only or all week long.

This place is so authentic, their website lists their GPS coordinates for people arriving by boat.  Naturally, they have their own dock.  Timing is everything at F&F's.  Seating and parking is limited the closer you get to sunset.

Also, don't forget to stop in at the many Smoked Fish operations up and down the peninsula.

Have a great trip!

Buddy

I enjoyed this place too!

I'd go with the traditional favorites up there. You can't go wrong with Whitefish tacos, Lake Trout sushi, or pulled venison BBQ sandwiches.

CTD,

Is Manitowoc along your route? A stop at the Covered Wagon may find a slice of Sour Cream Raisin Pie placed before you. They have a good selection of house-made pies. You won't know what kinds until you get there.
