Montana Buffet and Toucans are very good. Go down to the Gulf for seafood. Head towards Biloxi, there are several fine dining establishments there.
I was just in Biloxi/Gulfport in March visiting my gal pal poker dealer.
Montana's does NOT have their buffet anymore. (I used to like their buffet, too) Just a regular sit down meal. The brisket was pretty decent. (parts of it tender, parts of it not) It is on Rt. 49, right by the Gulfport airport turnoff. .
pic of brisket at Montana's, Gulfport MS.....loved the crusted edges!
Toucan's was pretty good; it's right in front of the Wal Mart shopping center. They have lunch specials that are unbelievably cheap, as in $4.95 type meals. But something about eating Mexican food in Gulfport/Biloxi did'nt sit right with me. I felt like I should just be sticking to my fried chicken, po boys, and bbq.
Cajun's Fried Chicken restaurant in Gulfport has an all day buffet for about $6.00 or so. They are located on Pass Road, parallel to Beach Blvd. Their other location across the street from the beach in Biloxi got blown away. That was my favorite location cause it was right in front of the Edgewater Mall, too. (well, at least the mall made it through)
There's not as many of those seafood restaurants in Biloxi anymore, as most got blown away in the hurricane. Most are just concrete slabs now, at best. Although Mary Mahoney's was advertising that they are open again.
Many friend loves The Shed BBQ, which is just a little north of Gulfport. It was'nt my kind of place... as I like my bbq chicken crispy, not the real soggy type. Their brisket is the shredded type, I like Montana's style better. But it was fun sitting outside at the picnic tables. I don't know if this would qualify along your lines of
decency; hope so! Cause we are a bunch of roadfood people over here!
The Shed BBQ, Gulfport MS area
most of the Biloxi shoreline (Rt. 90) looks like this..
blown out signs in Biloxi...
Except for the big , huge buildings........they are called CASINOS...and naturally were the 1st things up and running after Katrina
You can't leave the Gulfport/Biloxi area without trying a "Po Boy" sandwich! It's the LAW!
If you make it just east of Biloxi, check out the Po Boy Express in Ocean Springs. I loved their hot roast beef po boy!
Po Boy Express, Ocean Springs, MS "roast beef po boy"
and definitely take a drive along the Biloxi beach
...still real pretty to look at, despite Katrina!
hope you have a "fun" business trip..
