Had a new sandwich that was outstanding.

We were at Christkindlmarkt in Bethlehem PA yesterday, and concessions were being handled by local fair caterer MMG Concessions. I ordered a German Gyro (aka a doener kebab): gyro meat on a warm pita, with grilled hot pickled cabbage, chili sauce, and something else I couldn’t place.

Like I said, it was outstanding, savory and meaty and sweet. I especially enjoyed finding a new combination of flavors, I wasn’t expecting that. I get older, it always seems to be levels of quality of familiar flavors.

The ingredients you list don't appear to especially sweet, so could the mystery flavor be responsible?  Since there's a German twist here, what about gingersnaps?

You could always message them on Facebook and see if they'll let you in on their 'secret ingredient'.

It was a sweet chili sauce, like something from Wos-Wit, if you are familiar with that brand. Very PA Dutch.
