Have you seen the new Ruby Tuesday ad??

Ruby Tuesday has upgraded their salad bar. The old one was good. We eat there 3 or 4 times a year. The new ad shows a family that is so happy that the "Mom" breaks out in a dance in front of the salad bar. She dances close to and under the sneeze shield, and exhales onto the food. Maybe it is my sick imagination, because my TV is not that high def, but was that a spray from her mouth??? It would only be normal, because she is dancing so hard, and has to catch her breath. Since my first view, I have watched the ad carefully, to be sure, but it is still just an interesting mystery.

I know that that the kitchen staff breathes on the food, and I'll allow another poster to make the Bismark comment. Maybe I'm just odd, but another family member noticed it too, and when she mentioned it to a coworker, he had noticed it too. He said he never goes to salad bars or buffets for exactly the situation as shown in the ad. Don't they show these ads to focus groups before they air them??? Why not just show the kids touching the food with grubby, little paws??

Although I realize some can be OK, I can't stand salad bars/buffets....trough feeding.

Saw it this morning and did a back and forth slo-mo with the DVR.

No spew, but she was doing the 'happy dance'.

After seeing the Ashley Judd rant it is always nice to see a woman who is so easily pleased.

I try to avoid buffets or salad bars. Once in awhile I go, but mostly my friend who enjoys them. One review said this Indian lady used her fork to try stuff from the buffet.. right out of the buffet. Another said something about a kid sticking his finger in.

I know first hand this story: I took my Grandmother and Aunt to a Mongolian Restaurant.. it's like chinese food you put whatever you want in the bowl and the chef cooks it. Meats, veggies, sauces, etc.

After the chef cooks it there's a few condiments on the counter.. sesame seed, hot chili oil, and peanut butter. My Aunt asked what it was and I said peanut butter. She dips her finger in and licks it. I said I told you more than once what it was, and you could totally tell. I kind of didn't want to know her after that.

One other thing I observed in the ad ... the children were allowed to serve themselves despite the fact that their faces were lower than the sneeze guard.

Also, at the end of the commercial:  was that little girl going to her nose to mine for some 'gold'?  Sure looked like she was going for it!

Maybe next commercial Ruby's should feature an Indian woman with a fork.

I can't believe you missed it!

It was spectacular, but - unfortunately - it is NSFW and this site.

Let me change the subject a little.  Another good reason to NOT eat at a chain restaurant.

I built the machine that puts the grill marks on the chicken. It is coloring.

For the 'Full Monty" search YouTube for "Ashley Judd rant".

If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was a parody produced by The Onion.

Just to veer back 'on topic', there are times I wouldn't let her near my salad bar.

By any chance is the coloring flavored by 'Liquid Smoke'?

Are you referring to the short version:

Or the extended version?

Or the "coming of age/ making new friends" saga:

Maybe this is why they did it:

I'm not a great fan of Panera Bread....the bread is OK at best, but the sandwiches they make with it....NO. I thing Chipotle is a burrito over priced and filled with too much cheap filler.....Of the three, I'd take Ruby Tuesdat. Salad bar at ours was always extensive and clean!!

I agree wholeheartedly about Chipotle and Panera.

We used to have a Ruby Tuesday's in McKinney, but it had a terrible location and closed eight years ago.  Since, two other restaurants opened and soon closed in the same location which presently stands vacant.  I checked and they seem to have left DFW entirely; the ones in Tulsa and Texarkana are the closest (240 miles away).

The best salad bars in town are at Whole Foods, Market Street, and Central Market - all 'high end' groceries.  Jason's Deli puts out a decent spread, but otherwise restaurant salad bars seem to be getting rare - strange, as the gross profit in them is immense.

Jim, It is if that is all they purchase as an entree. As an inclusive (to an entree) or add-on it dilutes the Food Cost....also labor intensive if it's a good one.

I used to enjoy sitting next to the fire in the local Panera while drinking coffee and reading USA Today. And I did stop by often to buy one of their mini asiago cheese loaves.
