BBQ for dinner is kind of oxymoronic, but Smoke does a good job of it in a comfortable setting.
And, they offer a full bar as well.

irisarbor - How did you fare finding BBQ for dinner last Thursday? Did you find any? If so, where and how was it?

Count me as 'inquiring', too!

And thank both Twinwillow and me for not mentioning that The Original Sonny Bryan's is now open 24 hours!  I'd rather not even think about their quality in the P.M. and A.M.

Besides, their "dining room" is not exactly "built for comfort" - especially if you are, like me, 6'2", 230#, and left-handed!

I drive by (the original) Sonny Bryan's BBQ almost daily. However, nowadays I'm never tempted to stop and eat there.
But at one time "in a Galaxy a long time ago", I would have lunch at SB almost daily.

The ribs and brisket were terribly dry (by today's standards). The best thing to eat there was their great, chopped beef on a bun loaded with their incomparable BBQ sauce. Another must have was a side of their fried onion rings. I loved their fantastic, tasty BBQ sauce which was made with the brisket's fat drippings. Just be sure you had the Tums handy a few hours later.

I can still see the late, great Sonny B. standing behind the counter chopping the briskets for sandwiches.

Even though I will never again attempt to eat at one of (the original) Sonny Bryan's cramped, right-handed, school desks I do still enjoy a lunch there during the summer when they have covered, misted picnic tables set up in their ample parking lot.  11:00 is the best time; the BBQ is fresh, the O.R.'s are crispy and hot, the beer is cold and it won't hit 100 degrees until 2 or so.

Along with my lovely bride, I will be back in Big D this weekend for what has turned out to be our annual trip.

We are meeting that ol' rascal MetroplexJim on Sunday, October 7th at Hutchins BBQ & Catfish in swanky McKinney at 11:00AM.  I didn't know too much about the place, but Texas Monthly named them of the 50 best BBQ parlors in Texas and that's good enough for me.  It doesn't hurt that McKinney also has a location of Emporium Pies.

Anyone else interested and available for a bbq/pie doubleheader?

You lived in Dallas at one time and I have never heard about you going back.  I can only assume you have been politely asked not to return.

I've only been married since December, so still learning the ropes myself.  I will leave that to long time married professionals like JoeRogo and CTD.

Well, we have that too.

The best of them, Harvest, is right around the corner from Emporium Pies.  If you like pretention and don't mind lectures from wait staff, it does offer very fine meals … for a price.

"Professionals"!  Please.

Mrs. Metro IV and I will be celebrating 20 next year.  Mrs. Metro I and I would have been celebrating 50 this past March; Mrs. Metro II and I would have had 40 this August.  And then the "trophy"... OMG.

As Lee Iacocca observed:  "You learn more from failure than you do from success".

But you don't need advice from me, for you have chosen wisely.
