Nice job on the photos SD!

And a big thanks to scholtz for going with me afterwards for tacos.  I don't scare too easily, but I'm not so sure I would go back to that place at night by myself.  But the tacos were mighty good!

Did you have the Suadero tacos I told you about?

Next time, try El Come Taco.

They're very close to my home and also delicious.

I don't care what you call me, just don't call me late for dinner.

Great food, and greater company.

We stayed in Dallas that night and stopped for Dim Sum in Richardson the next morning. It was too packed but we remembered our conservation about First Barbecue. With so many newer places closer to home we had forgotten how good it is.

As to the cowboy hats, the saying here is that "the west starts in Fort Worth."

What fun!  Glad to see some new faces.

Isn't Michael's hat the type the Native Americans wear?  Doesn't look Cowboy to me.

It's a Gun Club, or Australian Bush, style hat.

plb - we'll have to hit up Jeng Chi or First Chinese BBQ sometime!

twinwillow - The suadero was an excellent recommendation. The chorizo was quite good too. Tacos La Banqueta had exemplary red and green sauce - smooth with a good level of heat.

BB - It was my pleasure to join you. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all though I'm sure we stood out a bit. The girls tending the counter were friendly and sweet. Were also quite a few families out for dinner there.

Indeed.

The only time I saw "a ton of hats" was at a dinner at Pappadeaux in Ft. Worth.  The dining room was full of 10X Grey Beaver.  There was some "Western Event" in town, so that was not a random sample.

(I cannot resist ... the last time I saw fur on a beaver was 1992; I kind'a miss it.)

It was so much fun meeting local Roadfooders, having lunch with the Roadfood Gang, and putting faces with screennames. You guys have been invaluable to me during my time here. All that was missing from my plates & silverware kit was Buddy Roadhouse's trunk.

We are having either Italian or fried chicken tonight. I'm also packing my snacks for my 2 flights tomorrow.

Thank you! Can't wait to see everyone else's.

Is the neighborhood comparable to Jake's in Milwaukee?

Ok, remember how I told you guys I'd bought an extra cinnamon sugar cupcake (lower right hand corner) because I knew I wouldn't want to share it? It rolled wayyyyy back in the trunk of the car, and was there until Monday when we found it. And it was still really really delicious. (Sopaipilla? I think it's the "I" in the middle that's throwing me.)

And for whomever asked? Twinwillow was that you? Al's Italian Beef tastes the same as what you would get on Taylor Street. BF wasn't a fan but he happily ate the hot sausage link and Chicago style dog we got. His dog, however, was a big fan.

LOL @ ScreamingChicken, Idk how I missed that, but I behaved myself.

Sorry, my photos turned out terrible.  Typically, the quality of my photos is in reverse proportion to how many people I am dining with, if that makes any sense.

Although I think the neighborhood of Jake's is a little rougher, at least I was never there at night.

Looks like I am coming back to Dallas, this time with Mariton and her 10 gallon hat.  We will be there the weekend of November 4-6.  The last get together was so much fun, anyone interested in doing it again?  The best time for us would be late in the afternoon on Saturday, November 5th, but we could be flexible.

Anyone interested?

Knowing your appreciation for our Art Deco Fair Park, the only thing I can't figure is why you don't come sooner as the Great State Fair of Texas is going full throttle, but ends October 23.  But, that's O.K. because I'll then be checking this, among other stuff, for the next three weeks.

Count me in!

Thanks for your confidence. What do y'all like? Burgers? Taiwanese Noodles? Neapolitan Pizza? Jewish Deli? Regional Mexican? More BBQ? Mexican Seafood? (Yummy!)
I know where the best are to be had. So, what makes your mouth water?

Now that I am back from the Southern California trip, time to make plans for Dallas this Saturday.  Having Twinwillow pick something out for us certainly works for me.  How about somewhere around 4-5pm?  Maybe we should get a hold of plb and his wife Jane and see if they can join us.

Mariton and I are in.  Who else is joining us?
