How does the "Restaurants by City" work?

I've never used any features of this website except the forum pretty much. Today I decided to try the "Restaurants by City".

Now let's say I type in "Green Brook Township, NJ". I get no results. I click "Find Closest". It gives me some results.

Now let's say I type in "Bridgewater, NJ" or "Clinton, NJ" which are both west of Green Brook. No results again. However this time when I click on "Find Closest" is where the weird stuff happens.

It gives me results that Green Brook would have been closer to, yet those results don't show up on there! I get listings for Tommy's Hot Dogs in Elizabeth, and Magnifico Ice Cream in East Brunswick. Both of those are closer to Green Brook than they are Bridgewater and Clinton. Bridgewater is 15 minutes west and Clinton is another 20 minutes west of that.

You ask how it works. Basically, it works just about the way using an aluminum foil hat works as a GPS.

Just for kicks I loaded Gahanna, Ohio and got a zero. The map shown for Gahanna includes Columbus and four other suburbs of Columbus in addition to Gahanna.

FOUND THE SECRET TO MAKE IT WORK!
Put in Phoenix ad only one place came up but under the picture of the food was the word "Phoenix AZ".
I clicked on it and a bunch of other places popped up!

Well, as it shows nothing for Gahanna I clicked on Show Closest One and up came three places, the closest being a diner about 10 miles away in downtown Columbus, an ice cream parlor even farther and another diner in a suburb clear across the county, thus skipping over a gazillion good restaurants, including many excellent ones.

It only includes Restaurants that have "official" reviews here on Roadfood. If you have an interactive screen, like an IPad, you can zoom in or out using the plus and minus buttons. You can also drag the map to any location you want with your finger.

Not sure but I think it only pulls up ones that have been reviewed on here?

Maybe asking how it works is the wrong wording. I meant how does it work behind the scenes because it needs to be fixed.
It's NOT showing me stuff it SHOULD show me. So for "Green Brook Township, NJ" it DOESN'T show me something that shows up on "Bridgewater, NJ" or "Clinton, NJ" and this place it shows in those two is actually closer than them.

Here's an example that's not true, but just using three different states to illustrate: Let's say I typed in Chicago, IL and nothing popped up. Let's say I type in Newark, NJ and it gave a restaurant in Los Angeles, CA. You know LA is closer to CHI, so why the heck didn't it show up there. That's what happened to me with NJ.

You might have better luck using google or yelp...
