As a Texan living in Dallas, tonight I shall remember all my fellow Texans in South Texas in my prayers.

As Harvey is focused primarily on wreaking havoc in the Republic of Texas I am confident that the best will be made out of a truly unfortunate circumstance.

Hail storms, tornados, withering heat, hurricanes, floods, drought, and the occasional ice storm are just part of the landscape - most of which is otherwise tedious and boring.  We'll do just fine.

Looks like we're going to have to "do" without Houston for a while.  It's a flat, low-lying city with 100's of square miles of concrete over clay soil.  The water channels to the Gulf are being blocked by storm surge, so water literally has nowhere to go.  They already have had 20" of rain with another 20" yet to come.

Yet, remarkably, there had been little or no loss of life.  There is order in the streets and the power is still on.  Go, Houston!

Those poor people.  I hope most of them evacuated and have homes to return to.  They really got hammered and it lingered.

My friend, Karen used to live in Clear Lake and they got flooded with a little rain.  Loved the daily storms when I visited because we have nothing like them here.  Now my feelings about them have changed.

Good on them! I'd imagine that Walmart is on the way, too. They're usually Johnny on the spot in a disaster. Hopefully no-one will interfere with these folks delivering aid, as they did during Katrina.
