I90 from NYC to Chicago

We are traveling with a dog and it's a moving trip so we are looking for things not too far from the highway. Suggestions appreciated!

Welcome to Roadfood, Suzycayenne!  Could you post some more details?  I-90 starts in Boston and goes through New York State through the Capitol Region, Central NY and Western NY but doesn't run anywhere near NYC.  Just wondering what your route is from NYC to I-90 as there is a lot of great Roadfood between NYC and I-90.  Thanks and happy travels!

If traveling I-80 you may want to consisder a stop at Gio's. Gio's is a bbq stop housed in a gas station not far off I-80 in PA. They have outside sitting, dogs are welcome.

The food is actually quite good. My wife has enjoyed the ribs and pulled pork while I really liked the smoked chicken and provolne sub. Sides are pretty good, I seem to remember enjoying their fries.

If you're going from NYC to Chicago, Why not take I-80 ? It's shorter.

Another vote for Schmuckers ("ch" emphasized in case you want to spell it correctly for your GPS).

Two of the best are in the Miller Section of Gary.  Close to Lake Michigan.  Both with easy access to I-90 :

If you stop in Gary be sure to tell us of the foods of Poland that you have tried. Polish food being the best next to the original pizza of Gary, Indiana.

That was true in terms of Polish food in Gary at one time.  The Polish American Home was just three blocks of where I grew up in the 1950's and early 1960's.  Most of the great Polish places , in Gary, I knew as a kid, are sadly long gone.

However there is this great place in Hammond, still going strong.

And then the always delightful annual festival in Whiting.
