ISO pie and other stuff in Iowa between KC and Chicago?

Mrs. Roadhouse and I are in KCMO now and will be driving back to Chicago on Tuesday.

We're thinking of taking the Iowa route instead of the STL/downstate IL route.

Are any of those AMAZING pie shops and other places that I see buffetbuster and others posting located along I-35 or I-80? I would do the research myself, but I only have my smartphone with me, not a laptop, so it's a bit cludgy to navigate the site and maps.

We'll be doing 35 > 80 > 88, so anywhere along there would be helpful!

Thanks in advance!

The only pie I can help you with has tomato sauce and cheese, but if you're passing by Colfax around mealtime I had a really good pizza at Georgioz a couple of years ago.  Plus there's the whole Quad Cities pizza thing.

Of course, if you're willing to stay on I-80 a little longer there's always chicken in Ladd...

I was going to suggest that maybe Lanuti's would be open but when I did an online search I found this troubling news about its future.

Check the date on that article; I think Lanuti's future is past (passed?).  I saw this same information several months ago.  It was especially disappointing because I had actually walked into Lanuti's right after a big meal at Rip's Tavern across the street.  I thought the place was really cool and made a mental note to return someday and have a meal there.  Then the news of its passing.

Very sad.  It could have been a Roadfood Classic, now gone, possibly, forever.  With any luck, the new owners, should there be any, will maintain the vintage dining room and menu.
