Indianapolis fried chicken - need recommendations

We'll be there this weekend. The choice seems to be the Iron Skillet or Hollyhock Hill.

Looking at reviews on Yelp, some say the chicken at Hollyhock has kind of slipped recently, and can be bland and less crunchy. Iron Skillet gets great reviews. My Indy friend says both are great. Would love some opinions from all of you. I looked but no one on Roadfood has really discussed this topic in six years. Thanks.

Also, let me know if you have suggestions for Dayton, Ohio, our next stop. Thanks.

My Sugar Pie is worth a detour.  One of the better pie shops in the country.

LOL!  Dale, ordering the fried shrimp at the Iron Skillet was my poor attempt at variety.

How come you never poke fun at the ChiTownDiner for ordering that steak at the Iron Skillet?  It was a clunker just like the fried shrimp

Thanks for the quick responses, everyone! So Iron Skillet it sounds like. No one seems to care for Hollyhock any more.

Actually, my initial inclination was to say that the fried shrimp comes highly recommended by ChiBears15 but then realized I may actually be taken seriously

Next time someone goes to Stroud's in Kansas City, I'm going to recommend the Tilapia.

At Pine Club, is the steak really that great? I don't think it's prime. I do like the look of it, though. Wow - Fried chicken and steak in the same weekend!

How did a request for an Indianapolis recommendation yield an Ohio (120 miles east) suggestion? Great suggestion, but how come?

Yeah - we're doing Dayton as well. Sorry I didn't make that clear higher up. Pine Club sounds great but I'm open to other suggestions as well.

How about breakfast places in Indy and Dayton?

No, I think that was ChiShrimp15. They're somehow related.

We liked Café Patachou
I had a light breakfast there which was fine but ChiTown Diner and ChiSalad15 really enjoyed theirs.
Enjoy listening to the piped in French tunes in the rest room.

Has anyone had any experience with the OAKWOOD CLUB or the PARAGON CLUB in Dayton? They are old school Dayton Steakhouses also...not quite as old as the PC. According to reviews people are fans of all three.  Wow Dayton likes it's Clubs,

What makes Iron Skillet better than Hollyhock?

Last time I was at Hollyhock I thought the chicken was a little dry and the breading somewhat bland. I was very impressed with Iron Skillet.

danimal15 - This is a very good place and I'd recommend it also.  The bathrooms are a hoot!
