Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker

So, my wife keeps bringing this item up. They make a variety of them with different features, (the largest even has Bluetooth controls) and it doesn't look too bad for an electric pressure cooker. Lots of really good reviews and the thing seems like a Swiss army knife kind of appliance. Anyone have any experience with this beast? I really don't want to get into another appliance that might end up as a cabinet queen.

I won one.  It's still new in the box.

I joined a Yahoo chat group about them and recipes.

    It remains in the box.

Supposedly everyone loves them once they get over the fear.

Any universal widget usually doesn't do any of its advertised task as well as a dedicated tool.  Been my experience for many years.

Also never understood peoples adverse reactions to pressure cookers, have used them for 40 years and never had any problem, even when pressure frying...buy good equipment, take care of it.

Near as I can tell, it's a fancy way to try to get people to buy pressure cookers. I'm sure they do more things than that, but it all seems way too gimmicky to me.

For me, it comes from when we used to garden and can EVERYTHING. Once you see the top blow off one and put a hole the size of your fist in a plaster wall, you get a little gun-shy. That was good equipment, and it was properly taken care of... but when you've been canning nonstop for two weeks, you tend to get a little loopy and inattentive. I've also never seen the need to pressure cook anything... If I don't have time to make something the long way, then I make something else instead.

Very curious about these because they seem to be popping up everywhere. However I'm cheap. if anyone takes plunge, I'd love to know how swell it is.

We have a pressure cooker that must be from the fifties at my grandfather's house. Parts have been replaced but it still works. It makes the best green beans. I'll admit to being a little gunshy of it but no one else in my family is - no holes in the wall yet - but a relative tried to make apple sauce once and theirs went kablewy.

I have one and Love it. Easy for the wife to use, and I use it often as well. You won't be disappointed with it. I use it a lot just as a rice cooker.

    I don't think so Paul.

We considered doing it with ours, but didn't see any recipes for pressure frying. That was enough to give us caution. I'll check the instructions to see if it is prohibited.

Well, I picked one up from Amazon on Prime Day for a seriously good price. Haven't had a chance to put it through it's paces yet. It's a big one, though so I'll have to clear up some counter space for it. No way is it going in any of my cabinets.

I can attest to the Kuhn Rikon brand. I've had mine for nearly a decade and it sees weekly use. It's not electric. If you like making homemade stock it reduces cooking time by about 75%.
