Irritating things during your Restaurant visit!

I hate the "Hi, I'm [name], I'll be your server today! Like no kidding!
"What are WE having today"...didn't realize I was sharing!
You get the idea, any gripes out there?

A server that sits down at your table during the ordering process... or when waiting for my food!

When I pay a $9.00 tab with a $20 bill, "Do you need change?"

Related: When I pay a $9.00 tab with a $20 bill and receive a $10 and $1 bill in return. Guess you only wanted a dollar tip.

… or for a server to kneel / stoop while taking the order.

Ick!  Creepy!

Outback servers did that as a "matter of policy"; as is "my policy" I quit patronizing them..

Loud-talking men, constantly cackling women, and un-corrected screaming children.

So one might ask why I live in Texas.

Well, perhaps, had I known prior to moving here I wouldn't have.

My wife and I like to joke about how often we've had a server tell us, without prompting, that our food will be out in "two minutes" when it's taking longer than it should.

When it happens, without fail, it takes a lot longer than two minutes until we see our food.

When you have licked your plate clean and the server asks, "Was everything OK?"  No, you idiot!  It was not OK!  I put it in my purse and am taking it home to my dog!

Or when you have finished your beverage and you push the empty glass forward and the question is asked, "Would you like another?"  Nah, I thought you'd like to see an EMPTY GLASS!!!!!!!!

"Are you still working on that?" (I'm not "working" - I'm eating.)

"How is everything tasting?" (Um, like food...)

Taking one person's plate away when others are still eating.

When a customer orders a steak WELL done and you send it out WELL done and the steak comes back to the kitchen and the server says, "It's not done enough."  Heck, eat the table!  So you put it back into the oven for ANOTHER 10 minutes...……..and now it's like a piece of wood.  The server takes it out and the customer proclaims it "PERFECT"!!!  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Guests who linger (chat, chat, chat, and just one more trip to the toilet before abandoning table) while there is a lengthy waiting list and limited tables; and a staff that tolerates this behavior.

The relatively new concept of plunking down a wine bottle or carafe of water and empty glasses , particularly when the water is room temperature.

Restaurants advertising pictures of great looking food, especially chains like Subway but what you get looks nowhere close to the pictures. Restaurants posting pictures of great looking food on their menus or walls and delivering something far less appealing,, often done in Asian restaurants but maybe others too ? Chucky's..

Exactly!!!!    ...    Last night's order at Casa Grande Bar  Grill (Cairo, Ga).  I specifically asked the steak to be medium rare and their menu photo shows it to be medium rare.

What they advertised:    Sizzling Rib-Eye steak and veggies; And picture from the menu

This is what was severed:

I called the manager over and told him that wasn't a rib eye steak.  It was a flank steak.   He insisted it was a ribeye.       .... It could have been a large cut from a rib roast.  It was about 8" wide by 10 to 12" long on the plate and 1/4 inch thick.   But no way was this a normal Rib Eye Steak.  .... The meat was braised cook well done to produce the brown gravy; the veggies were few and very over cooked to mush.

Definitely deceptive advertising and no regard for their customers and this is a franchise restaurant.

It was a Flank steak, no question! I had to edit as I mistakenly wrote Ribeye!

It still wasn't what was advertised & shown on the menu; nor severed sizzling as described else where on the menu!    ... So it was cut from a huge roast. ... I don't like well done steaks!

Ok  ... so how did they cut it?      A boneless rib eye would be concave where the rib bone was & more tear-drop shape.   The above cut was not.  It was as oval as the cast iron pan ...   There is also a strip of fat between the outer flap and the inter eye or rib roll.    There was not on this cut.    ... The above photo clearly shows this.   There was no fat in this cut.

When you go into a restaurant and they ask, "Do you want to see a menu?"  Nope.  Just came in for a free glass of water and sit in your air conditioned room.  Then I'll use the bathroom and leave.  When I worked at a restaurant in Massachusetts we had a regular customer that always brought in tomatoes from her garden.  She would send them back to the kitchen so we could make a salad for her.  No problem.  The servers told us she would also buy a couple glasses of wine and leave a big tip.

When you go into a restaurant and they ask, "Do you want to see a menu?"

This doesn't really bother me since more and more restaurants have online menus these days, and if I used one of those menus to plan my visit I know exactly what I'm going to be ordering (2 piece dark, mashed with gravy, green beans).

My preferred fry toppings (in order) are...

1. Duke's mayonnaise
2. Malt vinegar
3. Nothing
4. Ketchup

Since number 3 is always available I'd just say 'ehh' to the half filled cup of ketchup since I'm going to toss it anyway.

I do this all of the time.  I knew what I was having for lunch today when we decided yesterday where we were going.  Plus if you go to the same restaurant often enough, you'll tend to have a short list of favorites anyway.
