Is There Any Decent Roadfood In Joplin, Missouri?

I will be visiting Joplin, Missouri next week. Is there any decent roadfood in that vicinity? Most of what I am finding online is chain restaurants except for "Red & Fred's Chili Parlor" which has been in business since the 1920/s but which is of course going to be closed the day I will be there.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

When I did potential research last year for our trip I found some wonderful roadfood type restaurants in Joplin
Although I've never been, this particular place just "screams" Roadfood   https://www.yelp.com/map/mes-place-soul-food-cafe-joplin  . In fact when you noted in your thread there were no roadfood restaurants, I was hoping they didn't go out of business.

BigR, I would think a visit to your namesake Big R's Bar-B-Q would have to be a must!!

I emailed one of associates in our Joplin store and here's what he had to say:

"As far as good local restaurants, if he is looking for a traditional mom and pop style restaurant, Fred and Red’s is a good choice.  We also have Stogey’s , Babes, and the Eagle drive inn, which are all local favorites.  If you are looking for a more formal dinner, the Red Onion café is a great spot."

I looked at the photos of Red and Freds on yelp.... It looks like the Greasy Spoon/side of the railroad tracks  version of Roadfood  (not that there's anything wrong with that) vs the Stern's celebration of regional food definition of Roadfood , although Reds and Fred's has good reviews too.

    BigR-
Southwest Missouri is an area I have been wanted to explore for years, as I get the feeling there is a treasure trove of good Roadfood in the area.  Hopefully you get some good suggestions and please report back what you find.  Good luck!

I'm going to be watching this thread because for years I've wanted to attend the area's ragtime festival in Sedalia, Missouri . . . which is only 132 miles away.

Thank you for the suggestions folks! Red and Freds and MEs Soul Food are unfortunately not open on Mondays (common with good Roadfood places) and Monday is when we will be there. I am curious about Big R's BBQ but we will probably be done with our business about 9:30 (doctor visit) so may try out Norma's Diner for breakfast. The beauty of it is that I live in Rogers, Arkansas, only about 67 miles south of Joplin. I am going to have to just make a couple of special trips up there to try these places out!
