Jakes Wayback Burgers

This chain  which started in Delaware recently opened a joint  nearby and I had to try it. It was totally empty when my wife and I  visited the other day at 2PM and was somewhat hard to find in Massapequa Park, a busy part of Long Island, on sunrise highway.. The shopping center road sign listed as Wayback in larger letters was very difficult to locate and the word burgers was smaller, so of course I past it while searching the area. It  turned out to be very similar to 5 Guys  Burgers concept but with better food. The burgers were seared  first, as it was a piled on the grill and grilled perfectly with brown edges . It was then smashed flat like Smashburger. The Jake Burger had 2 or 3 patties, I ordered everything  on two which included ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato,  raw onion and pickles.  Our order was delivered to our table on a metal  plate on top of a wax paper liner including golden fresh cut fries and breaded onion rings. Sodas included free refills. I would like to revisit and  recheck  a few more things on the menu and hope that my next visit is as good as this one was. Is anyone else familiar with Jake's? I included the thread including menu and locations below.                                            BUDDY

I wrote about Jake's on here a few years ago when they only had several locations in northern Delaware and hadn't added the "Wayback" to their name. I love the older Jakes locations that I've tried in northern Delaware to the point where I'd put them up there with any fast food style burger that I've had (especially the original location). But the one newer Jake's Wayback Burgers that I tried, in the PA suburbs a little north of Philadelphia, was nowhere near as good as the older Jakes I've been to. The burger was lacking in the strong beef flavor that made me such a big fan of Jakes. It was pretty bland in fact. They also didn't serve my shake in the metal cup it's made in, as they do at the older Jakes. It was still a good shake, but there is something nice about getting it in that metal cup.
I'm not prepared to write off all of the newer Jakes outside of Delaware based on that one experience, but I'm wondering if they'll have consistency problems as they move further and further away from northern Delaware.

They just opened their first location in Oklahoma in the town of Edmond, just north of OKC. It's just called Wayback Burgers, no "Jake's." I tried it a few days ago and I thought it was pretty good, but the prices are really out of hand. I ordered the Jake's double with American cheese, mustard, pickles, onions. The combo comes with fries and a drink but I upgraded to a chocolate shake. Total (before tax) was $11.98! The burger and fries were both really good and fresh (I was the only customer) but the shake wasn't very good, especially considering the price ($2.99 upgrade). They don't have anything on Braum's shakes that's for sure. Anyway, even though I liked the food, I doubt I will be returning as there are too many other options that are just as good or better for a lower price.

Great googly moogly...at those prices it's no surprise that Jake's is doing well on the east coast and slightly less well on the west coast, and is pretty much a non-factor in Flyover Land.

We have one here but I've never been.
Same side of shopping center location described above. If I have to search for something it better be wonderful.
Ours is called Jake's Wayback Burgers.
Weird.

Where are the hall monitors? A burger chain in the Burger Forum is verboten.

Or does that rule just apply for certain members. Can someone explain the rules to me?

We have one in the local shopping plaza near WalMart. I've been twice, but not recently...........Once in the "original" endcap location, and once in the new ,smaller, location. My nephew thinks that it's great, but I'm not impressed. IMO it is good, fast food, quality, at a higher price, and the special shakes, are IMO, just a tease, because they are not as good as you anticipate. The coupons that they used to offer (buy one get one) are worthless if you are eating alone.

I think that from now on, every thread should be posted in every forum.  Like that, one is bound to be the proper one and nobody will be offended.

I'm not sure how well they're doing in the east. I know of several locations, basically all of the ones that I had occasion to go by and all in the PA-Philly suburbs, that have closed.

I am the only moderator that this site has and I try to view the site as often as possible.  The rules need no explanation.  The moderator needs to pay attention and I do not have the ability to monitor the site 24-7.  Incidentally the pay is very good for being a moderator.

I dunno...unless this map is significantly out of date it looks like there are still quite a few locations in operation.

Hmmm...the Dayton, OH location looks like it's very close to Wright State University.  I'm there every August so perhaps I'll keep it in mind for next year.

There are a dozen or so locations in CT.  I haven't tried them yet, mostly because I have plenty of other options if I'm feeling like a more-upscale-than-fast-food burger.  BurgerFi is my go-to for that, unless I specifically want a steamed cheeseburger, in which case it's time to drive to Meriden for Ted's or The Lunch Box!

This is perfectly placed. The discussion centers around burgers, not chains.  Please do not move.

As I wrote in wanderingjew for president, I would have no trouble with wj all the time!
