Jim's Pizzeria (Janesville WI)

I've driven by Janesville fixture (50 years or so) Jim's Pizzeria many times over the years and last month I finally stopped in.

I'll bet Joe Rogo has a fountain just like this in his back yard...and living room...and master bedroom...and garage...

Sausage and mushroom, my standard order whenever I visit a place for the first time.  Although I should really be more thorough and get sausage on one half and pepperoni on the other.

Jim's pizza seems to be similar to the majority of the local (to the region) pizza places I've visited.  While the crust has a crisp exterior it's thick enough to have a slightly bready texture and taste inside, the sauce is on the sweet side, the sausage is mild, and the mushrooms come from a can.  In short, it's the kind of pizza a lot of Stateliners grew up on and return to, as evidenced by the first-name basis shared by the waitress and all the customers but me.

Nice looking pie. Not exactly the style I'm used to but, I certainly wouldn't turn it down.
Btw, I much prefer canned mushrooms to fresh mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms dry up and get too charred and woody in the oven.

The pizza looked pretty good. The name reminds me  that my cousin Jimmy who lives in Milwaukee  had or used to  a pizza parlor, but i can't recall  what the name was.  Kind of a bone of contention with my mother ,as momma I guess felt that  her mother in law(grandma) did more for her son Uncle Tom and his kids than she did for my dad ,his brother, since grandma gave Jimmy the money to start the business.

If you can find the name of Jimmy's pizza place I'll lay even money that MilwFoodLovers ate there.

Could be Jimmy's Grotto over in Waukesha.  Holly Dolly, did your cousin ever mention an inordinate affection for the Ponza Rotta?  Something like that could certainly cause a bone of contention within some families.

    Hahahahaha. Thanks S.C.
    If I didn't I'll try it.
The only Jimmy's I know is indeed Jimmy's Grotto. But that's not in Milwaukee nor is it pizza.
I've got a new member of my local Top 10. Jonny Hammers serves the best wings I've ever tasted and their pizza is spot on. http://www.jonnyhammers.com/ I'd take the Contingent here in a heartbeat.
